WAT PHO HOME TO THE RECLINING BUDDHA IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE SITES YOU WILL SEE IN BANGKOK...WHEN I FIRST SAW IT IT REALLY TOOK MY BREATH AWAY BY ITS SHEAR SIZE, I KNEW IT WOULD BE BIG BUT IT REALLY IS BIG !!. THIS GOLD PLATED BUDDAH IS 46 METERS LONG AND SOME 15 METERS HIGH IF I REMEMBER THE GUIDES WORDS, AND IS DESIGNED TO ILLUSTRATE THE PASSING OF BUDDHA INTO NIRVANA. OVERALL THERE ARE OVER A THOUSAND BUDDHA IMAGES AT WAT PHO. ALSO AT WAT PHO IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET A TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE, PRICES ARE 150BHT FOR THIRTY MINUTES AND 250BHT FOR AN HOUR. A NICE WAY TO END A TRIP TO THIS VERY SPECIAL PLACE. Phone: 02-221-991Directions: The entrance to Wat Pho is on Chetuphon road. Entrance is 20B. Wat Pho is also known as the "Temple of the Reclining Buddha". There you can see the 48m long reclining golden buddha. Its feet have mother of pearl inlaid in the soles. The temple is quite expansive and well worth an amble around. Leave a Comment Phone: 02-221-991Directions: The entrance to Wat Pho is on Chetuphon road. Entrance is 20B. Wat Pho is famous for its giant Reclining Buddha. The temple was created as a restoration of an earlier temple on the same site, Wat Phodharam, the work beginning in 1788. The temple was restored and extended in the reign of King Rama III, and was restored again in 1982. Wat Pho is the largest and oldest wat in Bangkok, and is home to more than one thousand Buddha images, more than any other temple in the country. The Reclining Buddha was made as part of Rama III's restoration. It is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, decorated with gold plating on its body and mother of pearl on its eyes and the soles of its feet. The latter display 108 auspicious scenes in Chinese and Indian styles. The temple is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. Even prior to the temple's founding, the site was a centre of education for traditional Thai medicine, and statues were created showing yoga positions. During the Rama III restoration plaques inscribed with medical texts were placed around the temple, while in 1962 a school for traditional medicine and massage was established. Entrance is 20B. It's open every day, opening hours are from 08.00am to 5.00pm, with a break from 12.00pm to 1.00pm. Leave a Comment Phone: 02-221-991Directions: The nearest stop on the river is Tha Tien. Wat Pho is located adjacent to the Grand Palace and is one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok with a collection of more than 1000 Buddha images including 788 Buddha images in one ordination hall alone. Wat Pho is also the center for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine and Thai massage. What most tourists come to see though is the famous reclining Buddha which is 45m long and 15m high. It has mother of pearl inlaid in his feet and eyes and the body is completely made out of gold. The Buddha's feet are particularly interesting as carved into the mother of pearl are 108 auspicious scenes in Chinese and Indian styles. When you walk into the reclining Buddha's temple you will feel completely overwhelmed by the sheer size of it and you will be hard pressed to get a decent photo without feeling the need to stand back a bit to get the whole length in your shot! As the reclining Buddha is the main tourist attraction of Wat Pho you will most likely find yourself amongst throngs of other tourists all trying their best to get a good look. It would have been much better for me if there were less tourists around but the audience has still left an impression upon me as I'm sure it will upon you. We were talked into hiring a guide for 200 Baht. Although he gave us some useful information, his English wasn't very good and we could have just as easily wandered around ourselves. Tip: gather your own information and read up on the temples as you wonder through. Cost: 20 Baht Opening Hours: 8am - 5pm everyday with a break between 12pm - 1pm. Phone: 02-221-991Directions: The entrance to Wat Pho is on Chetuphon road. Entrance is 20B. It's open every day, opening hours are from 08.00am to 5.00pm, with a break from 12.00pm to 1.00pm.Website: http://www.discoverthailand.com/

Wat Pho is probably one of the more well known of Bangkok's buddhist temples, as it features the massive relclining buddha in its central temple. A dress code is normally expected at temples so plz no sleeveless or sexi clothes, and guys preferably something longer than shorts. When entering mainly inner area's removing shoes is normal as well. Entrance is normally 20Baht for non-thai's and free for thai people.
