  • This Wat is amazing. I was escorted by a monk friend of mine, and he gave me a general tour of the place. The statues are beautiful and intricately done, some of them a real hoot to look at, such as the "farang" statues. I never saw the reclining Buddha because we got there too late. We got there around 5pm and the place was actually quiet and tranquil, which is not normal, from what I heard. You can walk around and no one will bother you. It feels a little like your alone sometimes.

The chedis are a must-see, by the way. They can be found in the back of the compound. I never saw one up-close before, and it blew my mind how ornate it was.

This is one of my favorite places in Bangkok and my favorite wat. The reclining Buddha is stunning. You have to see all the wonderful temple murals that line the building he resides in. In the large complex, you will see lovely chedis, decorated with smashed Chinese porcelain(used this for ballast in their ships) and carved the pieces into flowes and various designs. There are four large chedis, which contain remains of the first three Chakri kings, plus many small ones throughout the wat.

You have to see the farang statues(foriegners). The temple is known for their traditional massage center. I didn't do this, but you can get a Thai massage here. Maybe a nice touch end of the day, after you have seen Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaew (which is right next door).

Wat Pho is probably one of the more well known of Bangkok's buddhist temples, as it features the massive relclining buddha in its central temple.

A dress code is normally expected at temples so plz no sleeveless or sexi clothes, and guys preferably something longer than shorts. When entering mainly inner area's removing shoes is normal as well.

Entrance is normally 20Baht for non-thai's and free for thai people.

    Wat Pho: Thai Traditional Massage

  • While visiting Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), suggest you try the Thai Traditional Massage.

It is said that the Thai Traditional Massage originated from here as Wat Po was the first open university in Thailand offerring many courses including those in medical science, physical therapy, and pharmacy.

You can even take courses offered by the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Massage School. For more information, check out the website mentioned below.

A must-see place in Bangkok... home of the famous giant golden reclining Buddha...
The Buddha occupies 75% of the interior of the temple...

Absolutely amazing!! fantastic sculptures, buildings and architecture!! have to buy tickets to see Golden Buddha but the queues are long. But worth the wait! There are also temples of many sizes and not just one. But be respectful when you pay a visit especially women, and wear clothing that covers your shoulders like a t-shirt and NOT a strappy top! Another curteous thing to do is to take your shoes off when you enter a temple :) (worth it also even if you have smelly feet)

  • Getting to Wat Po from the water taxi is great fun and cheap. We took the taxi from Sampan Taskin and went all the way to pier 8. You have to leg it off the boat as they are a bit quick to get the boat moving again !! Even seeing the reclining Buddha the second time it was just as grand. All these sights for 40 baht, it was great ! Any one that has been....have you ever got all the way past the copper pots with any coins left in their hands ??????? !!!!!! I was 3 pots short !
