There are not really words to describe Wat Pho. Other than large and magnificent. The Buddha dates back to the 16th century, and is located near the Grand Palace.
The Buddha is reclining, the largest reclining Buddha in the world at over 150 feet long and nearly 50 feet high. One of the most intriguing things about the Buddha is the feet. Mother-of-pearl inlays on the feet depict 108 different characteristics of a Buddha. The statue is finished in gold leaf, making it shine from the inside of the temple. Around the Buddha in the wat there exists 394 other gilded Buddha images.
It is a delightful place to explore, one of the must-sees of Bangkok. Be sure to be respectful of the wat.

Wat Pho should be on top of your list of temples to visit when you are in Bangkok. Highlight of this place is of course, I think, The largest reclining Buddha in Thailand. All you got to do is come here armed with 20 bht and a good camera. It is pretty touristy and generally very hard to take some nice shots especially when you have a long line of people behind you trying to do the same. I enjoyed this nevertheless...

Wat Pho is also known as the "Temple of the Reclining Buddha". There you can see the 48m long reclining golden buddha. Its feet have mother of pearl inlaid in the soles.
The temple is quite expansive and well worth an amble around.

This is one of the bigger and centrally located Wats (Temples) in Bangkok. It's next to the Grand Palace, so it's easy to combine the trips. It takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to wander through, depending on how thorough you are and how interested you are in this type of activity.
The architechure is amazing: there is great tile work, and these huge stone statues that are actually Chinese. They were used as balast in the trading ships as the Chinese sent silk to Thailand.

Rebuilt in the 1780s by Rama I, Wat Pho is really worth the visit. It has a traditional medicine center (including a massage center, closed when i was there).
The Reclining Buddha is a most see. Check out it's feet. The details are just amazing.
The Main house (Main Bot) has a big shrine with a meditating Buddha. It's also all Gold plated and amazing by all the details in it's tiniest parts.

WAT PHO HOME TO THE RECLINING BUDDHA IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE SITES YOU WILL SEE IN BANGKOK...WHEN I FIRST SAW IT IT REALLY TOOK MY BREATH AWAY BY ITS SHEAR SIZE, I KNEW IT WOULD BE BIG BUT IT REALLY IS BIG !!.
THIS GOLD PLATED BUDDAH IS 46 METERS LONG AND SOME 15 METERS HIGH IF I REMEMBER THE GUIDES WORDS, AND IS DESIGNED TO ILLUSTRATE THE PASSING OF BUDDHA INTO NIRVANA. OVERALL THERE ARE OVER A THOUSAND BUDDHA IMAGES AT WAT PHO.
ALSO AT WAT PHO IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET A TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE, PRICES ARE 150BHT FOR THIRTY MINUTES AND 250BHT FOR AN HOUR.
A NICE WAY TO END A TRIP TO THIS VERY SPECIAL PLACE.

Easiest way to reach is by taxi.
When we were there, there are some touts around the entrance who will tell us it's not open, entrance is on the other side of the river by boat, etc, just ignore them if you know what you are doing. Thais are generally friendly people, but not all "friendly" advice from total strangers are out of goodwill.

This world famous temple is located right next to the Grand Palace, on the south side. It is one of Bangkok's oldest and largest temples. Wat Pho was built by King Rama I nearly 200 years ago and houses the gigantic gold plated reclining Buddha.
This unique image is 46 metres in length and 15 metres high with beautifully inlaid mother-of-pearl soles. Wat Pho is also regarded as the first centre of public education and is sometimes called ''Thailand's First University'.
The building housing the Reclining Buddha is open daily from 9.00 am.-5.00 pm.

Wat Po is one of my favourite temples. It is the temple of healing. You can get massages there and also they can give lessons in Thai massage. Rae had a massage, she thought it was amazing, and it was quite reasonably priced. The picture is of statues in different poses of massage.
