Betcha didn't know about this little temple, eh? The full name of ths temple is Wat Ratchapradit Sathitmahasimaram Ratchaworawihan. I know it is a mouthful and the official name of Bangkok is a mouthful as well instead of the shortened Krung Thep.

In this temple are some really interesting artifacts. Some of King Rama IV's ashes are stored at the base of the Buddha. There is a prang that is entirely dedicated to him. Some gifts to King Rama IV (Monkhut) when he was coronated are housed here. French floor lamps, street lamps from England, a German floor standing clock that is still ticking and French ceiling lamps.

There are murals on the ubosot interior. They depict royal ceremonies and a solar eclipse of which Rama IV calculated would be overhead Bangkok. It is still undergoing restoration.

If you are armed with a GPS, it is at Latitude: 13.749577, Longitude: 100.495516

It is a short walking distance from the Golden Mount. It is uniquely beautiful in its way. Visitors are allowed to go up to the top of the building. It is kind of quiet and eerie on the ground level of the building.

temple

This temple was built in 1864 AD. by King Rama IV .
Important things :
-The grand vihara ,built in traditional Rattanakosin style . The royal seal of King Rama IV is depicted with gilded lacquer on the pediment .This vihara enshrines a Buddha image which is a replica of Phra Phuttha Sihing . Inside decorated with mural paintings with an interesting scene depicting the King 's trip to Tambon Wa Ko,Prachuab Khirikhan province to observe the eclipse of the sun in 1868 AD.

Wat Ratchapradit's Khmer Influence

Only after visiting Angkor did I finally come to appreciate this temple. Just a short walk from the Royal Palace, Wat Ratchapradit is a temple built in the style of the Khmer rulers of the time, resembling the great Angkor temples in Cambodia. However, the temple here is decorated in flashy colored tiles, much in the style of the other wats in Bangkok. A fascinating mix of cultures. A MUST see for Angkor buffs!
