Wat Arun is one of the top temple attractions in Bangkok and sits along the Chao Praya River. I did not go in, but took this picture during a boat ride.
The main Khmer-style tower is some 80-90m high and it is surround by four smaller towers. Construction was started by King Rama II (1809-1824) and completed by King Rama III (1824-1851). When Thonburi was the temporary capital of Thailand, the Emerald Buddha was kept here at Wat Arun.
Open every day from 8.30am to 5.30pm, and entrance to the Wat is 20B.

Late the afternoon of my second day, I took a tuk-tuk to Wat Indravihan to see the giant golden buddha called Luang Pho To. It is about 100 feet tall and 30 feet wide at the base! It is impressive, but not worth spending much time here. The people were very friendly and chatted with me for an hour while I waited for the rain to end.

Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng is a walled temple dating originally from the 11th century and it is told that Lord Buddha once visited the site and predicted a shrine would be erected to house sacred relics. This is the most imposing monument, the courtyard is dominated by 55-meter-high chedi covered with copper plaques. There are also 4 smaller chedis and decorative umbrellas at the ground along with the sorrounding terrace and low walls and ornate doorways which produces the most striking scene!
