The airport departure tax cost 500baht per person. It is a must to buy. Haha I wonder what will happen to those who do not have the money to buy it. In some countries like Singapore, it is included in the airticket already.

Scrambling around the duty free trying to spend the last of your baht? Just bear in mind that in addition to the fee you paid for your flight ticket, there is also a departure tax of 500 baht for ALL flights leaving Thailand. Ignorance is no excuse, and the airport staff will be only too happy to point you in the direction of the ATM!

This is not a trap. More like a 'tip.' Don't spend all your baht before going to the airport. You'll need 500 baht for the passenger service charge.
If you did some VAT refund shopping, pack the things you bought in one easy to show bag and make sure that you get your VAT refund form stamped BEFORE you check in your luggage, or you'll lose the right to the refund. The customs inspection booth is near row 9 of the check-in counters at the departure area.
