by Traveladdikt Tuk Tuks are a famous way of getting around Bangkok. In theory, they are very cheap but in practice the driver will almost always quote a very high price for tourists - much higher than if a local were going on the same journey and they are very, very hard to haggle down to a reasonable price. We found metered taxis to be much cheaper than Tuk Tuks (and they are air-conditioned too). Leave a Comment

Tuktuks-those quaint little open rickshaws!Oh-they just tempt you to take a ride!!Literally!!! Tuktuks are quite expensive, and just expose you more to the traffic and pollution. If you're really dying to try it-just take a quick ride!:) Leave a Comment

by Svitata If you want to take a Tuk-tuk ride, make sure you've agreed on a price with the driver. These drivers tend to overcharge tourists, and it's also best to have the exact change on you, otherwise, they can claim to have no money on them and you'll be forced to pay them more than the agreed price! It's better and safer to take the taxi. Leave a Comment

A kind of motorbikes are serving as Taxi , which is relatively fast and also cheap. the problem is they will drive you directly a shopping center that they are working with. Even if it is not even close to your target destination! After shopping!!! you can continue your ride.
Simply take regular taxi. They have airconditions and secure. (Ask the price before taking a cab) Leave a Comment

Avoid TukTuks at all costs.99% of them are crooks. They will always overcharge you.Best thing to do especially if you are with a family is to take the metered taxis. They will charge you as much as the crooked Tuk Tuk guys quote. Also they will try to take you to shops where something will be thrust down on you to buy.The Tuk Tuk guy gets a petrol coupon for bringing the tourist to the shop. They will also tell you that most of the sightseeing places are closed either for some ceremony or for weekly off etc.Avoid guys who want to take to to buy Gems .
Carry a road map with you. When you leave the hotel ,get the reception staff to write down in Thai language, the names of the places you want to visit.Show the slip to the taxi driver and also show him the place on the map,you are less likely to be taken for a wrong ride! Bluntly say you dont want any Gems or Shopping ,stick to your stand and sound firm, you should be safe.

Before you even get onto a tuk-tuk in Bangkok, agree on the price. Our driver agreed to take us to our destination, and along the way, he kept recommending we go to this restaurant to eat or that shop to buy. We said no, that our friend was waiting for us at our destination and we were late (which was not true of coz), thinking he would stop asking. But he didn't stop asking until he brought us to our destination. And even then he was like asking for a tip. Moral of the story? Sometimes you really have to be firm, or you end up paying more than you bargain for. Leave a Comment

Do not accept very cheap offer from Tuk Tuk drivers. 1 tuk tuk driver "quoted" 20 baht for an hour but he ended up bringing me to tourists spot (like jewellery marts) in the hope that I will buy and he will earned "commission" in the form of gas coupons. Although I reached my destination finally, I have spent a good whole 30 mins looking at Sapphire and Rubies. Leave a Comment

For tuk-tuks, agree the price for any trip before you get in. The chances are the real price will be well under half of what the driver asks for in the first place. Haggle! Tourist places attract tourist prices. Go where the locals go, for shopping, drinking etc. But please show respect at all times. Leave a Comment

I don't think Thais people understand Western principle of "personal space". Vendors think nothing of gently touching you and tuk tuk drivers will try to gently guide you into their tuk tuk. No man-handling, but akward since in America it's a no no to touch anyone without permission or unless you know each other well. Many tuk tuk drivers will say they will give you a tour of the city for 10 baht. Don't believe them. I found them more pushy than anyone and I avoided them at all cost and took cabs or BTS skytrain.
