Cheap internal flights

I last flew "One Two Go Airlines" when I was doing internal flights in Thailand.
I think all flights are the same - about $US 58.00 to Phuket or Chang Mai, and flying gave me more time in some places and actually worked out cheaper and more comfortable than the o/night train or bus up north. BUT, they also do much cheaper specials if you can book in advance.
I've had no trouble using this low cost airline.

We booked flights with Air Asia for the first time on our recent holiday - flew from Bangkok to Yangon and Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

The price difference between the other airlines and AA for the flight to Yangon, in particular, was huuuuge - ie. it was less than one third of the fare!

We found this airline to be fine to use - not a lot of legroom, as shown, but we are thankfully, rather short people. The planes seemed to be in fairly good order, staff were efficient and pleasant and the timetable was adhered to quite well. We did not purchase any snacks, but the food we saw others buy looked quite reasonable.

One tip for first time users is that there is no seating allocation on this airline - so its a case of first on the plane gets the best seat etc. If you are being ferried out to the plane by bus, which we were from the new airport, remember that last on the bus is first on the plane!!!

Adult human behaviour can be very interesting to watch whilst travelling - particularly when it comes to stampeding to get somewhere first! We used to laugh - get on the bus last, and, unless we got trampled on the way to the plane, got good seats! And - we all got there in the end.

Another note re this airline is that there IS a 20kgs luggage limit - and it IS applied. We saw plenty of people forking out for excess baggage! This is particularly enforced at the moment, due to fuel prices.

China Airlines Boeing 747

My mom, sister and I decided to go on a packaged tour of Thailand (for mom and Linda's benefit) and China Airlines was the airline we flew in.

The service was excellent as the flight attendants were very attentive and friendly. Our flight was a very long flight taking us from Bangkok to Taipei where we made a connection for our flight to the states which took us to Alaska then NYC.

Travelling thailand

If you travel with Nok air , keep in mind they do not transfer bags between flights. It can be quite a scramble as you have to claim your bags at arrivals and then clear security again to get back on your next flight. GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME. We flew from Udon Tanni to Phuket via Bangkok..almost missed our flight.

We were happy with Nok Air overall though. We booked before we left Canada...good prices and nice plane.

Flying to Cambodia

It’s an easy, and relatively inexpensive flight from Bangkok to Phnom Penh. We didn’t even have tickets into Cambodia when we arrived into Thailand. We researched flights prior to leaving the States and Air Asia seemed to have the most reasonable prices. We tried to book online but had difficulties so we flew to Asia and decided to try our luck at the airport. Our flight landed in Bangkok after the ticket counters had closed for the evening so we waited overnight in the airport for the counter to reopen in the morning. Other people gradually arrived too, so when the first agents arrived at the break of dawn there was already a bit of a line that had formed. But we had no problem getting onto the first flight of the day. A one-way ticket from Bangkok to Phnom Penh cost $112 US. Tickets were listed a little cheaper online so if you are able to book in advance or online you’ll save a little money. We also heard that it’s also cheaper to book through a travel agent versus at the airport, but for a last minute ticket, bought at the airport for a flight that was departing a mere two hours later that’s a pretty good deal.

The other advantage to crossing into Cambodia via air rather than over a land border is the ease of passing through customs. Talking to other travelers we heard horror stories of problems at land border crossings with customs agents. We had no problem at the airports. And the flying was considerably faster than any other mode of transportation into the country.
