The boat with blue flag, is the fastest stopping only on 3 pier, ThaNamNon Pier, Siriraj Pier and SaphanTaksin (Sathorn) Pier.It has a minimum and maximum fares from 25-35 baht. (For trial period, it just newly had this type)

Metered Taxis: Taking cab to Chinatown
  • Tip Rating:
  • I took BTS, transferred to subway and finally a tuk tuk to get to Chinatown. It costs around 50 bahts by tuk tuk (the normal rate for locals is 30 bahts) to get to Chinatown from the nearest subway. I stayed in Siam City hotel, close to skytrain Phayathai station. It only costed me 60 bahts to travel back my hotel from Chinatown. I would suggest going to Chinatown by cab, saves time and in my case, money too. Just double confirm with the cab driver that he is charging by meter and note down his cab number too in case of any problems.

PS: You may worry about traffic jams, just go a bit earlier to avoid it. ;-)

River and Canal Boats: Cruising along the Chao Phraya
  • Tip Rating:
  • The river taxis are a great alternative to the roads. Traffic is awful in Bangkok. If you want to go in the northern part of the city and see Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew, dusit park or some others it's faster to take a river taxi up the Chao Phraya. Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho are right near the river. Other sites, such as Dusit Park-you can take a river taxi to Tha Thewet pier and then a tuk tuk from there.

There is a faster river taxi, that hits the main attractions-Chao Phraya Express. More expensive, but it's possible to get a day pass. Local river taxis cost just a few baht.

For a little bit more, but a lot of fun -you can take a longtail boat. It's usually 40-120 baht. Depending on route and such. You can also hire these guys to take you to the barge museum or a khlong tour. They go quite fast and you will get a tiny bit wet. Great when you are hot and tired. Since it's going fast -you will keep hitting the river (bump bump thud noises). They will appropriately slow down near other ferries/boats and the Thai coast guard is nearby.

River and Canal Boats: Feel like in Venice ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • With small boat, you can find this Chao Phraya river and the klong in shallow water. Beware your butt about sitting there. Sometimes not so comfy and the views was coverage by the soft top of the boat. I have my own way by sitting on top of the seat!!! Oh!!!

I do enjoy using skytrain during my trip at Bangkok. Especially find a BTS station with my own name "Ari" :)
    Separated in 3 sections:
    N (north) Ratchathewi - Mo Chit vice-versa (N5 = Ari :D)
E (east) Chit Lom - On Nut (E3 = Nana, the place I stay) vice-versa
    S (south) Rathchadamri - Saphan Taksin vice-versa
    W (west) National Stadium

Metered Taxis: The different mode of transport in bangkok
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are several ways you can get around in bangkok.

    Tuk Tuk
    - This is a very traditional and Thai transport. it's fairly cheap and you can bargain the fare. Just be careful of tuk tuk drivers who drive around like the 'Tuk Tuk' driver that drove James Bond in the visa commercial. Yes, that was pretty exaggerating but they can be drive rather dangerously. Let the driver know your discomfort.

    Taxi
Taxi are fairly cheap in bangkok. They run on meter and it's cheap. Some tourist will also bargain with the taxi drivers about the fare.
if you are travelling in a grp of 4, it's very worth it to take the taxi. Some of my frens even commented that it's cheaper than taking the BTS.

    River-taxis
Good way to see the Chap Phraya River and Wat Arun Temple. and of course the thai who are living by this ancient river of Siam.

    BTS Train
Very convenient, you can take BTS to MBK, World Trade Centre, Siam Sq, Chatuchak and Pat Pong and Sathorn Pier.

Tuk-tuks: Take a ride of your life !
  • Tip Rating:
  • Moving about in a TukTuk is a wonderfully scary experience. You are exposed to the air pollution, heat and noise of the traffic. Sounds terrible but it can be exhilirating ! I felt like 007 whizzing about Bangkok in one of these.

Make sure you tell your driver exactly where you want to go and fix the price BEFORE you start your journey. Then its fun all the way :-)

A nighttrain to CM is cool eperience. We took a train that departured 14.30, heading to Chiang Mai(arrived 06.00). We had a 2nd class sleeper, and boys, there were nice feeling! Lot of other backpackers around the world(US, Germany, Sweden,...), enough booze and all the night to have a chat. Just great!
In the 2nd class there arent a/c(but fans), but there is a shower in the back of the train.
Also, you can always open the door and sit on the stairways to watch the sceneries chancing rapidly(well, a lot of stops, though...).
In the train you can buy food, snacks and beverages(beer, sodas, rhum, whisky, ice,...)from the peoples, that are walking back and forth on the aisles. Prices are reasonable.
There is also a restaurant, but the food wasnt so good, well, it was eatable ofcourse.
The one way ticket is appr.450 bahts(and hey! You dont have to pay for accomodation!!).

To the airport the best way to get is a train. It tooks only 15 minutes or so(compared to taxi; around 45minutes to an hour) and is cheap.

BTS Skytrain: A great way to travel in Bangkok
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Skytrain is a great way to go from one place to another in Bangkok. It's not expensive . Bangkok is vey busy and hot and I found the Skytrain a wonderful transportation. It's very clean, fast, cool, as it's airconditioned and fast. It will save you a lot of time, instead of being caught up in the traffic.
