The buses to the centre by SirRichard Bangkok International Airport is located in the north, outside the city. If you have ATM card, you don't really have to change dollars on arrival, you can simply withdraw some pocket moneyfrom any cashier. There is no BTS metro to the airport. You will have to take a taxi or one of the 3 lines of buses going to the centre. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Bangkok is a haven for the shoppers but do bear in mind, no matter how much you have spent, always leave the last 500 baht for paying airport tax at the Bangkok International Airport!!! Before you enter the immigration hall, you will see rows of automated machines and service counters for the tax payment. It's your preference on the mode of payment - either through the automated machines or service counters. Upon your payment, keep the voucher and present it at the entrance to the immigration hall. Just remember to leave your last 500B note for going home! *wink* Leave a Comment

It can get pretty crowded... by sailor_p It always pay to be early than to be late. Try to reach the airport early as it can get a bit crowded during peak hours. In addition, if you are claiming VAT, you need additional time to complete all these tasks. Remember, these are the things you need to do at the airport: 1. Get your goods inspected and acknowledged at the VAT office outside the immigration hall. 2. Check-in at your designated airline. 3. Pay airport tax either at the service counters or automated machines. 4. Go through the immigration hall (the queue can be long here) 5. Visit the VAT office inside the airport to claim your cash. 6. If you still have time, happy shopping at the airport mall. 7. Home Sweet Home :) If you are staying in the Siam area, try to start your journey about 2.5hr (during peak hours) before your flight departure. It pays to be early! Leave a Comment

Take the taxis from outside the airport - either left or right exit. Do not take private taxis. The journey downtown is around 40 minutes to an hour depending on the traffic. The total metered cost around 200 baht and if the taxis travel on the tollway and expressway downtown (faster), there are two charges of 30B and 40B to pay. On top of that the passenger also has to pay a 50 baht airport surcharge on top of the metered fee. Caution is that many taxi drivers claim they do not have small change; so do carry them. alternatively ask the driver to go to the nearest convenient store - 7-11 will do the trick, and funny but the taxi driver will suddenly find that he has all the loose change!!! Therefore it should cost about 300 baht all cost covered. For a hotel limousine it cost about 1000 baht. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

After exiting the customs check at Bangkok airport, ignore all the taxi touts and follow the taxi sign to the taxi stand located outside the airport building. When taking a taxi in Bangkok, always confirm with the taxi driver that the meter will be used before boarding. The starting fare is 35 Baht. There will be a 50 Baht airport surcharge for taking a taxi from the airport. Tell the driver to use the tollway for a fast journey to your hotel. However, you will have to pay for all the toll fees. There will be 2 toll stations along the way, and you will need to pay a total of 60 Baht (20 Baht for the first toll station, and 40 Baht for the second one). If you give the driver a 100 Baht note at the first toll station, he will give the note to the cashier and return you 40 Baht, retaining 40 Baht for the second toll station. A typical journey from the airport to the central area will cost about 160 Baht (excluding airport surcharge and toll fees). I usually round up the taxi fare to the next higher 10 Baht. From hotel to the airport, you should definitely make sure that the taxi meter will be used, even if the hotel doorman got the taxi for you, and especially so if the taxi was waiting just outside your hotel. In my case, the taxi driver did not want to use the meter and tried to charge me a fixed fare (including toll fees) of 350 Baht! Theme: Other

If you don't have much luggage (in fact no big deal even if you do, depending on you!!), you could consider taking a train from Hualamphong Train Station. It's a straightforward 60-75 minute ride to the airport. There are several stations on the way, but the airport is so visible on your right, you can't miss it. At Hualamphong, there are tourist information advisers happy to be of assistance. At the ticketing window, they speak enough English to explain when the next train is & from which platform. Cost for this journey is a paltry 5THB!!! Platforms are on the left, before you go to buy tickets. Frequency is roughly 2 trains an hour, best to check before your departure day. Benefit is you can compare & contrast the several forms of transport in Bangkok, this being one of the oldest & most neglected. Also you will pass over several khlongs, seeing boats whizzing goods/passengers along the narrow canals, often at impressive speeds!! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

From Don Muang International Airport you have different choises to go from there to down town or what ever. TAXI: A taxi costs you around 300 THB (Baht) and thats around 8 USD. The trip can take from 30min up to 2-3hours depending the time you go. The rushour is very famous... TRAIN: There is also a train station opposite of the International Airport Terminal 1 (and you can walk from Domestic Terminal). There are not many trains, maybe 1 per hours. The train is very cheap. BOAT: As far as I know you can also go by boat and you have to go from the airport to the Chao Phraya River and than you can drive down. This I never tried out... BUS: There are also Buses leaving near the Railyway Station but I never tryed out this because everything is writen in Thai and I takes very long because the bus stopes everywhere...
