 | Bangkok Metered Taxis Reviews | Tips 61 - 70 of 146 | | Don't bother with taxi's that refuse to use meters. The one exception to the idea that Thai people are really nice is the Taxi service. I'm sorry but gonna gripe a bit here. I refuse to take the cabs that wait in front of the hotels all day. Those guys just seem lazy and will only go to locations that they consider profitable enough for them to take. They will always over charge you and just not worth the hassle. I don't even allow them to talk to me anymore, if they aren't trying to take your money, they're trying to sell you "Massages". Rest assured that there are some decent drivers in bangkok and really, when they rip you off, its for a whopping extra 1 or 2 dollars. So nothing to get too worked up about. (All in all, still better than Tuktuk drivers. Read scams in Thailand.) I have taken a tuktuk once in Bangkok, with a local, still had to ask 3 drivers before we got a reasonable price. It was traffic hour and tuktuks can be quicker as they drive like maniacs. Still kinda fun though. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

 | | | | Metered Taxis: Nowadays, metered taxis are everywhere | | | | | |
It might have been difficult to find a metered taxi in Bangkok until a few years ago. Nowadays, however, it's difficult to find a taxi without it. You can't miss the huge signs mounted on top of the car's roof saying "Taxi-Meter". Just hail one along the road, get in, say "meter, please" and tell the driver where you want to go. It's very helpful to have your address ready in Thai as most drivers wouldn't know the Latin street names... Alternatively, you might just point out one of the big BTS or Metro stations, which they usually know. Same applies to big shopping malls like MBK or Siam Paragon. We originally planned NOT to take taxis too often as everybody talked about the clogged roads, BTS and Metro. However, if you are traveling with two or three persons, taxis might in many cases be the cheaper and even faster mode of transportation (especially for the areas west of the National Stadium, Chinatown, etc. where there is no BTS or Metro as yet). The current fare starts at 35 Baht for the first two kilometers. Just try to avoid the rush hour in the morning and afternoon/early evening. Other than that, the taxi is a good and easy way to get around the city. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Make sure you use the Metered Taxis in Bangkok...they are everywhere and if you're unsure, just ask the taxi driver if he uses a meter. The taxis are quite cheap and easy to use, although some drivers do not understand much English so if you don't speak Thai make sure you write down the address of where you want to go...
