River and Canal Boats: Getting around on the river
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Rua Duen or water taxis stop at boat landings along the main river and some of the Khlongs (canals) there is also a bigger quicker Tourist boat service, which stops at ten major piers along the river and runs every 30mins approx

The best place to0 get on is Sathorn Pier, as it’s also a sky train terminus

Cost for day pass is 75 Baht

River and Canal Boats: Tourist Boat
  • Tip Rating:
  • CHAO PHRAYA TOURIST BOAT
At sky train stop Saphan Taksin you'll find the tourist boat and for just 75 Bht. you'll get the opportunity to see Bangkok along the Chao Phraya River
The one day pass takes you to 9 piers you can freely get off and on at any pier to explore the beauty of the surrounding areas and the markets along thr river.
As you enter you are handed a very cold bottle of drinking water , How cool is that!

River and Canal Boats: Crossing the Chao Phyara via River Boats
  • Tip Rating:
  • Most folks will make the river crossing to Wat Arun from Wat Phra Kaew/Wat Pho via Tha Tien Pier.

Hop onto one of the river crossing boats/ferries for just a mere 3 Bahts (circa Jul 2006) for the less than 5 minutes crossing.

The public bus boats that run up and down the Chao Phraya river are not only cheap but they are the best way to see many of the major attractions in the city. You can jump on and off as you please and don't have to worry about the infamous Bangkok traffic jams. There are many tourist boats and private taxi boats, but if the public boats stop where you are going then you don't need to waste money on those other options. Plus, it's a great place to mingle with the locals. Just be sure you don't sit in the reserved monk seating (see photo).

River and Canal Boats: The water buses are Bangkoks great commuter secret
  • Tip Rating:
  • For a little more than a nickel, hop on the water bus and check out the major sights in the city. I certainly recommend finding a hotel that is within walking distance of a water bus stop. These boats are fast and efficient even during rush hour, and are themselves a heck of a ride.

    River and Canal Boats: Canal
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bangkok traffic is extremely congested. It can take up to a half hour to get a few miles by land. A good solution is to take to the water whenever possible.
