Tuk-Tuk Venturing out after taking in to consideration all the advice about transport in Bangkok. With out directions to the IT centre in hand we approached the first Tuk-Tuk waiting outside the hotel. We stated where we wanted to go and negotiated a price, as per the advice. Once we were sat ready to go our driver asked again where we wanted to go and then halved the price if we went to the spectacle shop. We said no just to Pamthip Plaza. He then wanted to take us to the diamond shop. We said no! The craft shop? We got out and waved him away, as per the advice. The second driver took over asking where we were going and negotiated the price and of we went. This was our first experience of Tuk-Tuk and the Bangkok traffic. All the warnings we had been given, that we had ignored were true. A Tuk-Tuk ride in Bangkok is attempted suicide, if not from some terrible pile-up as Bikes, Cars, Tuk-Tuk, Lorries and Coaches all jockey for the best racing line around corners and road position (or should that be possession). If you survive that there is carbon monoxide inhalation. You may as well attach a hose pipe to the exhaust; if that is you can find one. The other problem is that you can almost guarantee that the driver has no idea where you want to go, he will drive around looking. It must cost them more that you actually give them. So with life threatening levels of noxious gases, death deifying banger racing and travelling from the middle of nowhere, to the middle of nowhere. Then go to the city, big city, Bangkok and take a Tuk-Tuk ride Theme: Other

Tuk-tuk is a three-wheeled motorcycle. It is good for a short distance ride and you try to go by tuk tuk if i came to Thailand Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Tuk-tuks are 3 wheeled vehicles unique to Thailand. They serve as another mode of local transportation. But before getting on one, make sure you agree on a price first as these are not metered like regular taxis. Theme: Other

WHEN I THINK OF BANGKOK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKES ME SMILE IS THE MEMORY OF MAD MAD RIDES ON TUK TUK'S.. SO IF YOU WANT A GREAT MOMORY OF YOUR TRIP TO BANGKOK TAKE A TUK-TUK ON A CRAZY ROLLER COASTER FUMES IN YOUR FACE FILLED RIDE OF YOUR LIFE, THESE LITTLE MACHINES ARE GREAT FOR NIPPING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC TO GET YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, JUST BE WARNED THESE WEE MACHINES CAN TIP OVER BUT IN GENERAL THEY STAY ON ALL THREE WHEELS WITH YOU SAFE AND SOUND. MOST TUK-TUK DRIVERS WILL TRY TO SELL YOU SIGHT SEEING TRIPS OF THE CITY FOR VERY LITTLE MONEY...THESE OFFERS MAY SOUND TO GOOD TO BE TRUE JUST BE WARNED THAT FOR THAT VERY CHEAP PRICE YOU WILL SEE THE SITES BUT THE DRIVER WILL TAKE YOU TO GIFT SHOPS THAT HE KNOWS AND WILL PAY HIM FOR BRINGING YOU TO THEIR SHOP WHERE YOU MAY GET A HARD SELL...NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AS LONG AS YOU KNOW BEFORE SETTING OUT ON THE TRIP. WE USED TUK-TUK'S MOSTLY AT NIGHT TO GET US HOME FROM THE LIKES OF KHAO SAN ROAD, WE FOUND IT A PERFECT WAY TO END A PERFECT NIGHT OUT...I LOVE THESE LITTLE MACHINES AND LONG MAY THEY BUZZ ROUND THE STREETS OF BANGKOK. We were fully aware of the tuktuk scams but we still managed to end up on a tuktuk tour. A random Thai man flagged a tuktuk down for us and showed us (and the tuktuk driver) places we should visit before we go to the Grand Palace (apparently it was closed for the morning and we believed him on this occasion because a reliable source told us it was a public holiday that day). So anyway, we were told it would cost us 40 baht. I was very suspicious yet somehow my boyfriend was convinced it would be ok and we ended up on this tuktuk. Our first stop appeared to be a dodgy back alley carpark which worried me what I had got myself into, until I got out of the tuktuk and saw a building with an ornate roof and was told that this was the "Lucky Buddha Temple" which was only open to tourists one day a year (I'm pretty sure that was a lie but we got some nice photos and it didn't cost us anything so I didn't mind). Then we were taken to the Marble Temple. Then unfortunately our next 3 stops were at various gem/silk shops. Our tuktuk driver was very honest and told us if we spent 5 minutes looking around, we didn't have to buy anything, then he would get a petrol voucher. We appreciated his honesty and obliged, particularly as we hadn't paid him yet and he had already taken us to a couple of temples. We parted ways with our tuktuk driver at the Grand Palace, so we got there in the end. It was a good experience to ride a tuktuk but just be wary and always negotiate a price before you get in. We were not excited to sit in Tuk Tuks as we have our Bajaj Rickshaws in India which are more comfortable and cheap than the Thai tuk tuks Theme: Other
