 | | | | Tuk-tuks: Bangkok Transportation Tip (Untitled) | | | | | |
Also known as "samlor", is a three-wheeled taxi without a meter. Fares must be negotiated beforehand. They're normally a little cheaper than ordinary taxis but are suitable for short trips only. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Travel prices in Bangkok are very different. If you are budget traveller, you don't need to pay a lot for travel. First of all, you don't need to use Taxi. You don't need Tuk Tuk, but if you want you can try it. I tried too. You have to follow rules. If somebody come to you to have cheap tuk tuk. Don't use it. Because you have to visit shops. This tuk tuk guys are specialized for tourist to get from shop to shop. They tell you, you just have to look around a little bit. But after they bring you to an other shop and an other shop, and an other shop... This is fun for 2 or three times, but if you are not strong enough they try tobring you many shops. This is not a good feeling. You can use the local transportation, for 8 or 20 Bat taxis are relativly cheap too, but the local transportation is even more cheaper. You just need to find a bus map. You can choose between a/c and chaeper buses without a/c. Theme: Car/Motor HomeWebsite: http://www.koh-chang.com/about5.htm

 | | | | Tuk-tuks: Motorized Rickshaw (TUK TUK) | | | | | |
Tuk-tuk, So named because of the sound of their engine, these are motorized rickshaws and are popular amongst tourists for their novelty value. They are occasionally faster than taxis in heavy traffic as weaving in and out is easier, but generally about the same or slower. Without any luggage, 3 people can fit into one fairly comfortably - it's possible to fit more in but it gets a bit cramped. Fares always have to be bargained for, and it is sometimes possible to bargain tuk-tuk drivers down to less than the taxi flagfall of 35B when they make good value. Most times, they offer no savings over a taxi, except perhaps if you're good at bargaining and can speak good Thai. The initial price they quote is likely to be well over the going rate, but it's easy to bargain it down to a more reasonable one if you know roughly the equivalent taxi fare.As tuk-tuks are open-ended, they expose passengers to the high pollution levels in the middle of Bangkok's roads and offer almost no protection in case of an accident.Take Note: It's essential to bargain the price with tuk-tuks before getting in. If you only ask after the ride, it's likely to end in a request for an ridiculous fare which can obviously lead to an unpleasant situation. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

tuk tuk is cheap but some cases it maybe dangerous too...but getting around with tuktuk is the best way to save your money....it can takes 4 person in one time....normally ppl pay around 40bath for some tour around bangkok....u pay after the trip finish....so,they just wait for u when u spend time taking picture and wonder around....but i advise u to pay more for the tip(i think 40bath only can buy lunch, beside he's already taking u for half of a day trip) ---------and the truth bout 40bath------------ actually they charged u with small amount of money bcoz ,theres something more than money that they wanted.u'll knowledged that they will bring u to some export shop,or some duty free shop even u dont expect it.and if any of u guys just wondering around for like 10 minutes ,enough for them...coz they will get free coupon for the tuktuk gas.... thats more important ....and if u just hang there not more than 10 minutes they wont get the coupon, and u will find a sad look in their face....they dont seem happy and not very kind at all ...compare when u first got in their tuktuk..hehhe Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

These 3-wheelers have been a significant sight in Bangkok's streets for decades, but their number is decreasing. The municipality is trying to get rid of them, as they are noisy and contribute considerably to the air pollution, not to mention the many accidents in which tuk-tuks are involved. A tuk-tuk in Bangkok is mainly for the cold blooded traveller. In order to compete with taxis and skytrain the tuk tuk drivers in the capital drive in a speed of Michael Schumacher (in the pre-Alonso times), in the style of Jackie Chan and with stunts like Evil Knievel. You have to arrange the fare with the driver first, so if you are not familiar with the ususal rates, you might end up paying more for a route than it would have cost with a taxi. For me personally it makes sense to hire a tuk-tuk for shorter distances during the rush hours, as they still keep on moving when taxis get stuck, for a tuk-tuk driver regards a pavement as his very personal lane, or simply declares himself a pedestrian in order to use a pedestrian crossing. Further, due to his restricted view in his cabin the traffic lights are outside his field of vision, so he cannot obey them, anyway, the same applies to traffic signs like "one way street", of course. A Tuc Tuc is a fun way of getting around the city, but not if you want to travel a long distance, the smoke and noise will drive you carzy, but they are fun for short trips, just be frim with the driver as too where you want to travel other wise you could end up at a tailors or massage parlor.
