floating market

Some people may call Damnoen Saduak a tourist trap as they have the ladies running around trying to get you into their boats. And some of the stalls on the canals cater to touristy junk. But I enjoyed myself here. So I guess it might be a personal opinion.

this is a certified tourist trap more so if you are not the type who wants to buy handicrafts or furnitures.

according to their website:

RTC relocated its headquarters to 240 Moo 6 Tambon Dongruay , Amphur Damnoensaduak , Ratchaburi, which has a surface area of 150 rai and is conveniently situated only 9 kilometers from Damnoensaduak Floating Market , the largest floating market in the world . it is separated into

1. Teak wood furniture factory
2. Wood-carving factory
3. Furniture and souvenirs show room
4. Residential and Recreational areas for RTC employees

At present, RTC employs over 100 people and has a showroom of over 5,000 square meters in Ratchaburi and These showrooms accommodate over 800 visitors a day, and RTC has a vision to develop and expand business to provide more benefits for our customers. One of the main objective of RTC is to aid in the development, improvement, and conservation of authentic Thai art and culture , which as each day goes by , gets harder and harder to find . This may be the last generation of truly, skilled craftsman and their work. Therefore, it is up to the Thai people to maintain the traditional Thai handicrafts and keep these culture alive.

Unique Suggestions: All types of Damnoen Saduak Tours, whether the large bus tour group or the small van tour group of the private car tour group makes a 30 minute stop in this area about 10 minutes away from the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market as it it made cumpulsory by the toursim authority of thailand.
you have 30 minutes to look around the area and if you are not fond of buying handicrafts like us, as the handicrafts at the bangkok area like in chatuchak weekend market or at river city is way cheaper as you are charged artisanal prices here.then just kill time by hanging out at the entrance where there are tables and chairs or buy drinks or snacks at the refreshment center in the complex.

Fun Alternatives: none, just have a seat at the tables and chairs at the entrance

You might take a picture of a woman sitting in a boat on one of the klongs but it's not worth a more than 1 hour travel from BKK. There are lots of longtails and other boats packed with noisy tourist groups, some of them drunk. Dozens of souvenir dealers are lined up at the klongs and try too pull the tourist boats to the shops by using bars with hooks. The price for a boat can be extremely high. 'Call Coke Pier 2' charges unbelievable 4000 Bath for a 2 hour tour. Some taxi drivers in Bangkok offer passengers special deals for a trip to Damnoen Saduak. Don't do it. Thre are several other floating markets in Bangkok and Thailand which are tourist attractions, but this one ist the worst I've seen.
