River Kwai Village Hotel Restaurant: River Kwai Village Hotel Restaurant

by CandS Updated Jun 12, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We had dinner at the River Kwai Village Hotel Restaurant a few times... The food was always good, although I don't think it's very authentic. ;) We had a choice of Thai food or European food...we always chose the Thai food.

    Chukadon Restaurant: Very Nice Place

by yeikloen Written Nov 8, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant is located just at the edge of the city next to the river. There is also a floating platform over the river as well. The food presentation is normal but the portion is slightly small so you will need to order extra is you like that particular dish.

Favorite Dish: The prawns is really, steam big head prawns and fried oyster with egg. The price for 9 person, 5 adults and 4 child was 1290bt, 2 prawns, 1 squid, 1 fish, 2 pork, 1 chicken, 1 veg and 2 oyster!!! Its a bargain for a restaurant like this.

There were six of these lovely prawns

Sign says - Floating Restaurant (but they all are): Don't miss the fresh seafood! Honest it's true

If you are standing at the entrance to the bridge you will recognise the restaurant from this pic. It is the first restaurant to the right of the bridge. If possible go at dusk. The ambiance is wonderful the bridge is at its best and the food is wonderful.

As I remember it - we could have fed a small country for about $15

Did I mention that the food is excellent?

  • Apple Guest House: It doesn't get better than this

    by Brian&Sally Written Apr 21, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It's just a simple guest house, but the restaurant is devine. When the Lonely Planet guide raves about this place, believe them! The food is done to a level way beyond the price, the service is as friendly as can be and you can't fault the setting. If you only go to one place, go to this one, twice.

Favorite Dish: If you're asked how spicy you want it, and you say "Thai style", be prepared! It's wonderful, but it'll knock the head off even an experienced chillihead.

This is a cool English pub along the main road that takes you to the Death Railway Memorial area. The food was pretty good, relaxed atmosphere. Hop in for a beer with the British guys that run it...

Favorite Dish: Meat Pie and Mashed Potatoes.

River Kwai Floating Restaurant: Dine by the River Kwai

    by joyful_sun Updated Sep 22, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Very pretty floating restaurant a few meters from the Bridge over the River Kwai. This is the most decent place to eat in the area if your tour doesn't come with lunch. Menu can range from 50 Baht (US$1.20) for a dish to as much as 700 Baht ($17). We ordered their specialty a half size honey glazed baked chicken at 120 Baht, a plate of shrimps at 100 Baht and a spicy pork salad...truuuly spicy at around 80 Baht. Food and service were okay. They give you nice refreshing cold towels at the beginning of the meal, a welcome treat after crossing the bridge. Gives you a great view of the bridge. Also, lots of fish swimming right under the restaurant. You can see them while you eat.

  • Street Vendors: Softdrinks

    by yen_2 Written Jul 30, 2003

I bought my very cold and lots of ice softdrinks here...I told this lady here(with hat) not to put an ice but she did put alot..wel, not too bad for the very hot day! You can but anything in around near the bridge. Most of the locals are selling anything just to cater the visitors who are in their place. I also noticed that the visitors, like me,had a hard time taking pictures because there were alot of people near the bridge. But, the tour guide told us it's because the're were several renovations that's why the street vendors are not properly arranged!

Favorite Dish: Anyhow, that was a hell of the softdrink!=)

Imagine a raft, just covered by a thatched roof, in the middle of a river, surrounded by jungle and the blackness of the night, light given only by the moon and a few kerosine lamps... add to that delicious Thai food... There are no words to descibe that experience!!

Restaurant near the Wang Po Station: BUFFET LUNCH

    by Nina-Maarit Updated Apr 2, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

After the train trip along the 'Death Railway' our group got off at the Wang Po Station, and we went to have some lunch at the restaurant quite near the station. The restaurant was in the middle of the rain forest and there's a roof but no walls, so it's very close to nature.

The local buffet lunch was pretty ok, but it was obviously made for the tourists, since it was lacking spices. We are used to the very spicy Thai food and love it, so we would have been happier with real Thai flavour...
