The town is spread for the most part along one major road, Thanon Narai Maharaj. Though the town is growing in many directions, this road forms the backbone and leads to Saraburi to the east/southeast, and to Singhburi to the west.
There are 3 traffic circles along this route. From the east, there is the Pra Narai circle (district and provincial govt. part of town), the Sakaew circle (bus station, night market and other necessities), and then San Prakhan circle (train tracks, monkeys). The last circle is at the old town which is of most interest to visitors. The train station is a 5 minute walk south of here. Most of the city's historic sites are within a 10 minute walk of San Prakhan.

There are baht buses that run up and down Narai Maharaj Road all day til about 7 or 8 pm.. A trip is about 4 baht, and be prepared to 1. duck as the ceilings are low, 2. eat your knees as the seats are incredibly cramped, even for Thais, and 3. be entertained by loud Thai pop tunes amplified by many watts of power. There is a TAT office (Tourism Authority of Thailand) on Narai Maharaj Road between the Sakaew circle and the Pra Narai circle (that is, way out of your way) beside the sports field and across from the Lopburi Inn. They close at 4 pm to make it even more convenient. Leave a Comment
