    Scuba diving with Mermaids

    by CEP1863 Updated Oct 30, 2014

I have dived with Mermaids now for a number of years having started my Pro diving certification with them and since returning for further Professional Certifications. From the outset, I have always been more than delighted with their high levels of professionalism from the prompt answering of emails, to the booking of courses and dives, to the maintenance of their equipment just about everything is outstanding.

They are the longest running dive operator in Pattaya and have four of their own boats. This means that you are guaranteed diving everyday whether the boat is busy (weekends and public holidays) or very quiet (mid-week in off-season). They also have other dive centres book spaces on their dive boats as many dive centres will only run their boats with a minimum number of divers.

Boat safety briefings are well done and comprehensive as are the dive briefings. The ratio of guides to divers is excellent, usually on a ratio of 1:2 unless you request a bigger group. As well as visiting the best of the reefs around Pattaya, Mermaids regularly run dives to both the Khram and Hardeep wrecks. If you are an experienced diver then I cannot recommend these highly enough, especially the Hardeep, which due to strong currents at times, can be a demanding dive. After the first dive, a basic but tasty lunch is served which is included in the cost of the days diving. There is also free coffee, milo and iced water on board. Soft drinks can be purchased from the boat captain at a cost of 20 baht each.

All equipment can be rented from Mermaids and they also have a lot of stock if you wish to purchase your own dive equipment. These guys will give you excellent advice on what to buy without offering you the hard sale. They will ask you about your own needs, look at the budget you have and fit you up with the best kit to suit your abilities as well as your pocket.

TIP: If you are diving with your own regulator and use a DIN fitting make sure that you tell them beforehand so that they put DIN tanks on the boat.

TIP: If you are vegetarian, make sure that you tell them beforehand so that the boat crew prepare you a vegetarian lunch.

Equipment: They have a huge range of well maintained rental gear to fit all sizes if you don't have your own gear.

    Para Gliding at Pattaya Beach

by goutammitra Written Nov 23, 2012

It's an wonderful experience to be experimented. For ten long minutes you are up in the air with the help of a speed boat and a parachute. For a fee of Baht 600 it was an wonderful experience for Munu. They take you in speed boat to the middle of a floating dock, there you have the choice of undertaking Para Sailing or watching other Para Sailing. They will give you a number and tag mark once you have paid. Then you are in the Que, with safety jacket , life buoy , when your turn comes, you fly. They will also guide you on how to land, though it is very meticulously planned your landing sometimes you get dropped in the water just below the launching pad. There they assist you to get up, swim and get back on board.

Dress: Use your swimming costume as there is every possibility that you get drenched!

Fee: Baht: 600 for 10 minutes Para sailing

Munu getting tied with Safety Jacket and Parachute Running for launch! Here she goes, up in the air! Up up in the air! In the air!

Under Water Walk at Koh Larn Part II

by goutammitra Written Nov 23, 2012

Here are more pictures. If you have an Under Water Camera( Like the one I have) they will help you to take your pictures as well as pictures of the water world. The Olympus Tough 8030 , which I bought on return from Bali helped Munu to take the pictures of water world a lot. She took more than 100 pictures. The photographs taken under water are just excellent.

They charge you Baht 300 in case you want to get a picture of your under water walking. They give the pictures in a CD.

For a fee of Baht 1200 , she had a 40 minutes( They normally allow 25 minutes) walk under the sea bed. She also too many pictures with my Olympus Tough 8030 under water camera! It was quite an experience for a beginner!

  • Boat Rentals Thailand

by Eikeltje Written May 7, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We spent a very interesting and enjoyable day on 75 foot (23 meter) luxury boat touring, fishing and swimming around the beautiful islands of the Pattaya coast.
Why it was so special was because the boat was so clean and well run up to European standards, we found the crew to be very knowledgeable and helpful with regard to good fishing sites and safe swimming area’s, all the fishing equipment, bait and snorkeling equipment was provided free for our enjoyment.
It was surprisingly cheap considering the size of the boat, the service and the full day’s enjoyment we got from our trip.
We can highly recommend chartering this boat for day trips or longer overnight trips.
The Thai food they served from thier sea food menu on board had a splendid variety of different tasty dishes, all the ice for keeping our drinks cool in the insulated ice boxes and the bottled drinking water was provided free of charge.
We brought with us some of our favorite music CD’s as the boat has a very good music system.
This boat also offers evening cruises during which you can try your hand at squid fishing; the squid are plentiful and delicious when cooked on the open BBQ by the crew.
The most memorable day of our visit to Pattaya Thailand.

Equipment: If you wish to dive there are local suppliers who can provide you with all the necessary equipment.
A good tip in hot weather is to bring along a soft hat, sunglasses and some sun block.

    Jet Skiing

by Arjaree Written Oct 22, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you're looking for some active activities in Pattaya, why not go jet skiing. It costs you 500-600THB to jet ski for 30 mins.

I suggest you go to Jomtien beach cos the water is a little bit cleaner.

Popular sea activity from 11am to 5pm, especially weekends. Parasailing = parachute sailing. Fun to do but shortlived. 100 baht for one round the big ship where you take off from, on a speedboat. Speedboater will try dunking you into the sea once you reached the highest point.

Equipment: Parachute, harness, life jackets, and training all provided. Just bring along your money and sense of adventure.

    Wow... the waves are big.

And the winds are so strong.

Saw a lot of people windsurfing and also para-surfing.

You're hooked up to a chute like a big kite and you wear skis, using the control bar, you catch the wind and surf the waves!

Looks like great fun and there are places that offer lessons if you're interested.
