There are certainly way more beautiful and clean beaches in Thailand, but Pattaya beach is good enough for sunworshippers. Though I am not sure if I would take a dip. Since most come to Pattaya for the adult nightlife, think of the beach as an added bonus. The beach is located on the southern end of the soi's which make up Pattaya.

Pattaya Beach
One of the most famous beaches in Thailand but not the most great. Most famous because located in Pattaya, because have a lot of water sports, because have a lot of people.......and... If u like to swim in more clear beach you have to choise another one. From Pattaya pier there are some speed boads for one day trip opposite in the small islands like Ko Lan that you find clear beaches.

During daytime, Pattaya is boring and monotonous. Most tourists sleep in the morning and venture at night. Some others go to the shopping malls: Big C, Carrefour, Tesco and others. But the best thing is to hire a motor bike and visit the beaches especially Jomtien beach and Klang beach.

Pattaya Beach is 3km long and bordered by Beach Road. Due to its central location and extreme proximity to several hundred hotels, and because it's a relatively narrow strip of sand, it's crowded at the best of times (and even more so at high tide). For the thrill-seekers, activities include banana-boat rides, jet-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, and the like; and anyone who just wants to enjoy a simple swim or a good splash around with a Frisbee or rented inner tube will always find themselves with plenty of company.
For those more interested in inactivities there are acres of sand jam-packed with recliners and umbrellas (usually with an "in-house" supply of drinks), serviced by an army of laid-back but tenacious hawkers offering anything and everything from food (especially seafood, fruit, ice cream) to massage, manicure/pedicure, tattoos, lottery tickets, newspapers, herbs, flowers, gems, perfumes, sunglasses, CDs, watches, lighters, clothes, toys, souvenirs, and handicrafts (it's a bit like TV shopping - as soon as you've declined one offer, it's time to consider another) and so on.

Pattaya offers extreme adventure, sports, entertainment and nightlife to thousands of leisure-starved tourists annually. Often passed up for its boisterous charm, Pattaya is the one place where travelers of every budget, yet limitless imagination can enjoy the finest in culture, eco-tourism and revelry.
Located in the Chonburi Province of peninsular Thailand, Pattaya rose to fame during the Vietnam War as the troops' preferred furlough destination. Today, Pattaya boasts of being home to every Five Star Hotel Chain, Fast Food Franchise and entertainment option in the world.

You can rent a boat for a cruise around pattaya including North Pattaya, Na Klua and Jomtien beaches and have the option to go to Coral Island (Koh Larn) since the island is still unspoilt and lacks commercial facilities or just or go snorkelling or scuba diving as Pattaya has some scuba diving sights. If renting a boat, you can choose the size (remember were renting wooden motorized boats for cruising, not speedboats ok!) and you can rent for half day or whole day. rated vary but usually costs about 1500 baht half day and 2,500 baht for the whole day (if you are 10 or more, it will only cost 150 to 250 baht per person).

The sands of pattaya can be described as golden and rough (much like waikiki beach in hawaii), white sand can be found in Koh Larn Island (coral island) about 10 kilometers away or 1 hour boat ride but the island is lacking in facilities (but it has white albeit rough sand and not powdery sugar variety). Most sections of the beach in pattaya are covered by rented deckchairs run by local beverage vendors during daylight hours (they charge 400 baht!) so finding an available spot of sand is rather difficult and also unadvisable due to the poor condition (dog feces, trash, etc.) of the beach. Visitors are advised to avoid the beach after dark. Although the Beach Road itself is busy and brightly lit, some criminal elements find the unlit beach useful as a cover for their activities. The local police have started to target this area in various ongoing clampdowns.

Thailand has some of the world's most beautiful beaches, Pattaya's is not amongst them. Despite recent efforts to improve the beach,it remains in a sorry state. At high tide the beach is, in places, less than a meter deep plus the sand is a rough and golden (not white like phuket). Pattaya Beach is situated along the central city in close proximity to shopping, hotels and bars. The over-abundance of jet-skis and speedboats has contributed to the pollution of the water along Pattaya Beach, as has the sewage outlet at the end of the pier. The section of beach from Central Road (Pattaya Klang) south to the harbor is adjacent to the core of Pattaya's abundant nightlife area, hence it is less family-oriented than the North Pattaya, Na Klua and Jomtien beaches.

There are two major beaches.
Right downtown is the Pattaya Beach on Pattaya Bay. This is the busier beach with a lot of tourists sunbathing, getting a massage, jet ski, para sailing or going on an island boating trip.
Jontiem also has its share of high rise hotels and chalet accommodation. There are many places along the beach for families to enjoy eating and watching sunset.
Just make sure you have enough sunblock protection to avoid getting too much sun.
