    Pattaya . Thailand :open sewers!!

by dzohar Written Mar 6, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In Pattaya there are open sewers with black sludge pouring from the city into the ocean.
Many of the sewers are not fenced off and in rainy muddy weather it is possible to slip into the muck.

This stuff goes into the bay where people go swimming.
The stench is pretty awful and rises into the markets between the hawkers.

In some places the sewage pools into puddles that breed mosquitos that can give you dengue and malaria.

    Be very careful.

Not really an ideal place for the ladies

by shelnlin Written Mar 5, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Earlier in one of my other tips I mentioned that this town isn't excatly thrilling for a female. I cannot stress this enough and after watching a documentary about men coming to meet woman that they hardly knew and marrying them a few days later, shows how desperate some of these guys can get.

If you are a bloke use you bloody common sense, this girl that seems to sweep you off your feet with all your charms is perhaps only using you. She has often got family she is supporting and that can include Mum, Dad, baby, husband (did I say husband) yeah she is probably married.... to think of. Get to know this girl for goodness sakes before signing on the dotted line after you say I do. Spend time with her away from the bars, take her away from her local scene for awhile and really do some research on her and play it safe in the bedroom. Be sure she is telling the truth about her age as there are alot of child prosititutes around Pattaya now.

If you are girl look out too, sometimes there may be the odd occasional Thai guy looking for a western mate, yeah its a little rare but it can happen. Again they too may have a family to support so look out for everything and use your common sense.

Be careful, be wise and be cautious and although Pattaya is a great place to shop, its not a great place if you end up with a hole in your pocket or wind up with someone that took your fancy for a couple of days and then you end up spending the rest of your life paying money to the folks back home. Thailand is still a great place to visit and don't let me put you off coming here but really and truly think about what you are doing while you are there.

Below I have included a few website links I thought may be useful about this sort of thing or even coming to Thailand to live.

I have lived in Asia for three years and thought I had seen it all, until we brought the family to Pattaya. It is impossible to avoid the go-go bars and scantily clad prostitutes, no matter what streets you are on.

The place is FULL of 50-year-old, viagra fueled divorcees and 20-year-old working girls .... you could make a game out of spotting them.

    Pattaya minibus fare

by cbhuta Updated Sep 26, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Minibus

Board the minibus in the direction you want to go. For e.g. if you want to go to Pattaya beach, flag down a minibus that's going in that direction. DO NOT ask what he'll charge. We asked the first couple of times and were told 100 Baht for a 3-km distance. It was later that we found out that you just board where you want to and get off near the beach, and pay 10 Baht per person.

    Glass and Jellyfish

by gaolei Written Sep 13, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I walked along the shore at Pattaya and was struck by the number of jellyfish washed up on the beach and the amount of glass. Since beer consumption is the number one industry in Pattaya, it would make sense that broken glass would be a problem. There was a lot of broken glass on the beach and in the water, so be very careful along the shore.

    The locals on the beach

When you get there, find your spot, rent a chair. Once you get settled... here they come, one by one, trying to sell you shrimps, ice-cream, newspapers, or offering you a massage, manicure, pedicure.. You say no to all of them. You think it's done and now you can relax peacefully. You are wrong. Here comes a second round, third, forth...different and same ones keep floating back to you.

Nah it's not THAT bad. It takes just a few seconds to have each one gone. They dont really stay bugging you for a long time. Simply say "no, thank you" or shake your head is good enough.

Or you can pretend to focus on your readings and not hear whatever gets through your ears. Oh, another good one is just sleep.

    Have fun!

    Murder capital of Thailand..........

by richardlevett Updated Feb 24, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pattaya (+Jomtien) - known by some as "Sleaze by the sea" is a real hell hole of organised crime and prostitution. It's also Thailands "murder capital". Most are reported as "suicide" but two recent murders are reminders to be careful if you visit this overcrowded, polluted brothel. TO FAMILIES JUST DONT GO THERE! It's ok for a couple of days (weekend from Bangkok) but hardly a paradise it''s promoted as. It can be a very violent place. Latest news.......

Two Russian women killed at Jomthien beach

PATTAYA: -- Two Russian women, both tourists, have been shot dead in the Eastern seaboard resort of Jomthien, adjacent to Pattaya, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) southeast of Bangkok, police said.

Tatiana Tsimfer, 30 and Liubov Svirkova, 25 were killed when an unidentified gunman fired four shots from a 9 mm pistol, police said. Their bodies were found lying on the beach while their personal effects were left untouched.

Witnesses reportedly told police that they saw the victims drinking alcohol and swimming earlier.

Initially, police investigators believed that the Russian tourists probably quarreled severely with a beach chair concessionnaire which led to the later violence. Police are searching for the operator to investigate.

    JELLYFISH!

by RoyJava Updated Sep 8, 2006

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When wading through or swimming in the green-blue ocean-water you could possibly contact a jellyfish. Especially in rainy season (July to September) please, do avoid at any costs the JELLYFISH. While in the water you would not be prepared for that slightly stinging sensation.

Sometimes you may see the sea-creatures, which are brown or white. But the white one just suddenly show up! Touching this sea-creature you will be allergic and not that many know how to use a basic treatment. That is the use of the smashing "Morning Glory" leave. Ask Thai about ... but donot touch them!

    Don't Touch The Head!

by RoyJava Written Sep 4, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    buddha-touch-pattaya-thailand

In a spiritual as well physical way the feet are the lowest part of the body. That means you better do not put your feet on a table to slouch in a chair. Also donot point your feet to people's direction around you. And Thais believe in the same context, the head is regarded as the highest part of the body; the most sacred part of the body! So, refrain from touching the head, even not ruffling their hair!

That's why it is strange to see people (tourists ofcourse ...) touching the head for some luck of the famous fat Buddha statues. Mostly located in museums these images can be in parks, too. I saw locals do touch the feet, or his belly and, preferred to do the same. I really do not know where the luck will come from ... ;-)

    test-place-pattaya-thailand

Pattaya's image is no longer the sleepy fishing village it was 50 years ago. Pattaya is a late riser and the city comes to life after dark. Sex tourists appear to run the streets and, whatever their tastes, they will doubtless find something to keep the midnight oil burning. For sure!

There is also a prominent gay sex-for-sale scene in Pattaya. Prostitutes from as far as Romania, Russia and Nigeria can all be had in Pattaya. The saying "No Money - No Honey!" is trend and, it is time to take really great care when having sex in Pattaya! Taking precoutions is greet need! Even Pattaya itself stays alert and you can go for a serious test.

    PATTAYA TYPHON

    typhon-pattaya-thailand

What to do when the forerunner or the tailpiece of a real typhon hits the mainland
    where you're enjoying the weather???

Away! Out of the way there!

It happened on a clear day when a tailpiece of a huge Vietnam-typhon turned off to the Southeastern part of Thailand and hid JomTien, Thailand. On the sudden grey-black clouds overshadowed the beach area, followed by heavy gusts of wind like in a hurricane. The umbrellas got smashed to the air, which is quite dangerous because of the sharp pedestals.

A typhon is not a monsoon wind with heavy rains. Typhons can appear with bad weather above the Chinese Southern Ocean. Again and again you are not used to these sudden climatic events and the best to do is "OUT OF THE WAY THERE!".

  • Pattaya Warning Currently

by thaivet Written Jan 13, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In recent months Pattaya has seen a serious increase of incidents of shootouts and fighting between competing juvenile gangs. These gangs come mostly from outside Pattaya City, from areas like Banampheur, Huayyai, Bangsaray and Sattahip. They come on motorcycles in groups of about 10. They rob people, make burglaries, sell drugs and do other crimes. When they go out drinking together they make problems for innocent people and they start fights with other gangs.

We have seen incidents with gangs driving by bars and shooting their guns indiscriminately at anyone sitting in that bar. We have had many people complaining about having been harassed by these gangs when driving on Sukhumvit Road or Jomtien Beach Road, many times guns have been pointed at people in the traffic.

    Beware of "shows"

    by iNorv9 Written Jan 8, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Where do they come up with this stuff....

The owner of our guesthouse warned us that we would be approached by many people offering a variety of "shows".... some even for free. Even if for some reason you are interested in viewing one of these "shows", he told us that most don't even exist. They are used just a bait and switch tactic to get you into a bar and charge you an exhorbitant amount for drinks. You'll see guys such show lists everywhere in Pattaya (see pic)..... so beware.

    Peddlers,pimps,touts & tramps !

After the first or second day in Pattaya one will long to be left alone whilst strolling down a street. Sadly, some of the main streets like Beach Road, some soi's off Beach Road and Walking St do not make easy walking. Absence of proper side-walks is only part of the problem. A bigger menace is the constant call-outs (sometimes pictures are pushed just under your nose) and hassles from peddlers, pumps, touts & tramps. A nice place spoiled by these depraved sorts. Be careful not to get too irritated with them. I have seen several Thai people ganging up to beat "farangs" on more than one occasion. It is important to remember that the Thai's in Pattaya, Phuket & Patong do not represent the rest of Thailand - where Thais are generally the smiling, warm, welcoming people we hear about. Pattaya, Phuket & Patong attracts Thai's keen to make a quick buck no matter what it takes - so be careful.
