This temple was built in ayudhaya period . Some scholars said that this temple ‘s the example of Ayudhaya art. The must see things here 're -Ubosot which surrounded with sema or boundary markers. The curved base of this building was the style of late Ayutthaya period. On the pediment of Ubosot decorated with finest stucco depicted Narayana God on devil and inside the Ubosot, housed the Buddha image in Ayutthaya style.- Prang and chedi .
All was built and decorated with Ayudhaya style. (just some parts renovated ,but all was from local artisans). Other interesting things are finest stuccos on the bases of Sema or Boundary markers.Depicted about the giants or Yaksas holding the sema.

Cave temple
1 more image

In my case, the whole trip to Petchaburi was an outing from Cha am, so going to the temple was built in. I did not have to prepare to leave the city and visit some "off the beaten track" spot. Nevertheless, it was quite the surprise: temple guarded by monkeys and situated in a stupefying open-dome cave - some wild rendition of the Magripa temple in Rome. Once insight it is impossible to be left indifferent: the statues, the stalactites, the indirect light, and the funny noises of the fauna. I am sure that this place is unique in its quality of geographical closeness to centers of modern life, (such as Bangkok and Cha am) and spiritual remoteness from these very neighbours.

The old temple where was built in late Ayudhaya period.
The must see things :
-A group of old building, chedi ,viharn and ubosot in Ayudhaya style . Inside decorated with mural paintings depicted about Buddha story ,on the mural painting wrote a painted time as 2277 B.E. Try to find some pictures represented the foreigners who came to Ayudhaya Kingdom.
-Old pulpit , same style as one in Yai Suwannaram temple.
-Old pier on the West side of temple. Not so interesting much, but when I came there it was on the evening time and felt it was so great with old style pier hall and canal scene.
-The temple museum, housed so many fine wood carving stuffs from the past.

Or called in a short name , Wat Yai. This temple was built in Ayudhaya period by local artisans (Phetchaburi artisans was so famous in Ayudhaya period and it ‘s still be alive.) and renovated again in King Rama V in Rattanakosin period.
Interesting things :
-Sala Karn Parien or a hall for sermons, once was a pavillion of King Sue in Ayudhaya period. He was dedicated this pavillion for the famous royal abbot named Tangmo. This building was built from teak wood and decorated with gold on lacquer. The most famous and be as masterpiece is the front central door(on the East). Inside, housed 2 pulpits ,one was built in Ayudhaya period which is so beautiful carving.
-Ubosot or ordination hall, located in main building complex. The most famous is mural painting which was painted in Ayudhaya period. You can see 5 ranges of gods, rishis and yaksas paying respect to the principal buddha image (as a symbol of Buddha).
-Hor Tri or a hall for keeping scripture, located in pond on the South side of ubosot complex. It is hardly found for now, both from style which stands on only 3 pillars and located in pond (for protect insects ).
