Weather in Krabi

by bulldogtwo

I am surprised, a little, that Krabi is getting that much rain thgis time of the year. I would still try and go if I were you. Normally it rains for a short time, 30 minutes, and then lets up and is good again, heavier rains during the night time, usually. If you are flexible in your plans, I would try Phuket/Khao Lak area or along the Andaman coast versus the Siam Gulf area. You'll still get some rain but it should not be that much as I stated earlier. Hard to go wrong on the Andaman coast, and I think it is always much better than Krabi, rain or shine.Good luck and have fun!David

Best time to see Thailand

by bulldogtwo

For us the best time to go is the last part of October through November. The rainy season has virtually ended, although you could still get some showers, they are more refreshing than an inconvenience. You get better rates until November 1, and it's not as crowded yet. Because the rainy season has just ended, if you get to the countryside and out of Bangkok, you have a tropical lushness to the country that you don't normaly get, the jungles have so many shades of green. Unless you are going to dive, this is a great time of the year.Good luck and have fun!

Thailand weather in August

by bulldogtwo

You should be OK in August, it will rain but no more than it will in Bali that time of the year, probably! Most of the time it'll rain for a short time in the day time and then the weather will clear up, or you may not get any rain at all. For some fortunate reason it rains a lot at night. You'll have cloudy skies as well at times but the temp should be good, it's not like a rain in north America. Where ever you end up in SEAsia you will run into the same problem for rain. The good thing about it will be it is fruit season and you'll get to enjoy many different kinds of delicious tropical fruit!!Have fun and good luckBy the way, there is never a bad time to go to Thailand!

Bangkok Optical shops

by bulldogtwo

Lek Optical on Sukhumvit Rd and Ploenchit Rd. Tel # 250-0514 or 253-3432. locate beside the Mahathum Plaza Bldg or the Duty Free Shop. The store is down the plaza, on the left hand side. As you go down the plaza, Duty Free will be on your right, it may look like there is nothing there but Lek is down on the left about 100 feet off Sukhumvit Rd. I have been going to Lek Optical for about 25 years. Lek was located at different places but he relocated due to the BTS/MRT being put in years ago. He does good work and is very reliable, and prices are fair.Lekoptical@hotmail.comGood luck

4 destinations and 2 weeks for Thailand

by seagypsy

It'll be difficult to 'do' all 4 destinations but it can be done and you'll need to do the legwork of looking up avialable budget flights listed by vtven. Probably your best airfares will be with Thai Air Asia, Nok and 1,2,Go.If you do get a good airfare with Thai Air Asia, then it's probably best to connect and fly directly out of Suvarnabhmi/BKK International upon arrival to Chiang Mai. Reason being, obviously, is that you'll already be at the airport so you'll already save a significant amount of time flying directly out to Chiang Mai instead of going into BKK.Chiang Mai is good for 2 days but it'd also be nice to have a day out in the countryside since CM itself is a large city. Maybe go to an elephant camp (if that might be something you'd be interested in) or a hilltribes trek/hike that's one hour away from CM.Then it's probably best to fly from Chiang Mai to Krabi (but you'll need...

REstaurant in BKK

by lucy60

Haw much to pay in restauranys depends. If you like international food, or italian, or japanese and so on expect to pay more (sometomes much more) than 2000 THB. If you eat in a kiosk on the street you may spend from 50 - 300 THB. If you want a prepaid meal you may try in some store like Mahnbooking (Siam square), you pay a ticket and then choose what you like for the prepaid ticket. Or try some little restaurants in Siam square or Pratunem where you may eat a soup of noodles and balls (pig or fish) at a very low price. I recommend my prefered restaurant Yok Yor (opposite bank of the river of Royal Orchid Sheraton). You have to go to Royal City Shopping Complex (next to Sheraton) then ask in one kiosk (I never remind if the first or 2° one) for Yok Yor. The transfer from here to restaurant and back is free of charge. Here you may eat fish for 1000 - 1500 THB, it depende mostly of how...

Driving in northern Thailand

by bulldogtwo

There should be no safety issue, other than the driving itself. Roads, at least the main roads will be decent and in good condition. They will be curvy, hilly in areas so observe due caution. If you get off the main roads that could be a different issue. Don't know when you will be going and the rainy season is still going on, meaning that if you go off road it could start out good but turn bad quick from the rains. Common sense. I would also get an international driving license prior to driving, should be able to apply for one wherever you are from. And get a detailed map of the area that you are driving into, you can buy them and they can also be found at the tourist kiosks at the airports, but make sure it is as detailed as possible. Other than that you should have a fun trip, it's beautiful country! Have fun
