    Historical Fa Daet Song Yang

by somsakmah Written Mar 24, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fa Daet Song Yang is an old ruin that's supposed to date back to the 13th century. Not much is left, except a few chedi scattered around a large open area with a bit of shade (so it can be very hot in the afternoon). The biggest chedi is called Phra That Yakhu, supposedly to contain the remains of a senior monk.

The Black Statue Of Wat Klang

by somsakmah Written Mar 17, 2015

A temple with a huge compound. It has a highly revered Buddha image called Ong Dam ('dam' means black in Thai), a small bronze Buddha image that is.... you guessed it!.... black in color. This image is kept inside a glass-walled room in a prayer hall at the back of the temple ground.

A hilltop temple with a huge Buddha image that's approximately 10m wide and about 12-14m tall. Visitors can either drive all the way up to where the Buddha image is, or walk up a flight of stairs with 104 steps. At the hilltop, one can see a nice view of Sahatsakhan area and the Phu Kam Kao hills.

    A Huge Buddhist Park & A Left-Handed Buddha

by somsakmah Written Mar 17, 2015

A really huge Buddhist Park, spacious, clean, peaceful, but I'd stop short of calling it very quiet. It's quite a popular attraction with lots of locals visiting. It has a bulb-shaped pagoda, an open ubosot with a huge Buddha image, a contemporary wihan with very high ceilings (notice the beautiful yellow-colored lotus designs on the ceilling?), and a little further down a short road, its most famous attraction of a small reclining Buddha who is resting on his left hand (all other reclining Buddhas lean on their right hand). This image is discovered under a cliff-like rock and is supposedly built in 1692. And of course, buy some seeds and feed the numerous peacocks and peahens in the compound.

A little park with almost life-sized dinosaur statues along highway 227 in Sahatsakhan district. Most of these dinosaurs are sauropods. Kids just love this place, cos they can get to climb up and down the backs of the dinosaur figures.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place is where two ancient reclining Buddha images of the Dvaravati period carved on the cliff can be seen.

They are the sacred images highly revered by the people of Kalasin and nearby provinces. The first image is at the foothill and the second one is on Phu Po.

Apart from storing sacred Buddha images, Phu Po also features beautiful nature perfect for rest and relaxation. There is an annual ceremony to celebrate the reclining Buddha images in April every year.

Fa Daet Song Yang, ancient town

    by Pat_Bangkok Updated Mar 13, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is evidence of a settlement in prehistoric times, the area flourishing during the Dvaravati period circa the 13th-15th Buddhist century.

The layout of the town is like a heart-shaped stone that defines a temples boundary. There are two rows of moats. Ruins have been found inside and outside the town area.

The most complete ruin is Phra That Yakhu, a brick pagoda. Sandstone temple markers with and without designs have been found here and are now housed in Wat Pho Chai Semaram in the village and in the Khon Kaen National Museum. In addition, amulets and tobacco pipes made of fired clay and bronze were unearthed here.

Take about 28 kms. from city center.Phu Por is a sandstone mountain where Phra Intara Pratanporn Temple located. On the West of mountain, there 're 2 shelters where have 2 high relieves carved as Reclining Buddha image on the wall. The first one located about 5 meters high and the second one,you need to walk up the mountain for 426 steps. The first Buddha image carved in Dvaravati period (12-14 Buddhist centuries) with 3.3 meters long and 1.27 meters high. Depicted as Buddha reclined on cloth and there 're pillow supported on his head and feet. The second Buddha image carved in Dvaravati mixed with Sukhothai style (18-19 Buddist centuries) with 5.2 meters long and 1.5 meters high. He reclined on the bed. Apart from historical stuffs,I think this mountain offers you a great scenery of Kalasin. And every April, there 's the ceremony on Buddha images here.
