I had wanted to hire a bike from the guesthouse I stayed at called the Honey Inn (see my accommodation tip) but another couple got it before me. So I ended up walking to the bus station with an Israeli couple I met over breakfast and we started negotiating with a taxi driver who wanted 1000 baht to take us on a tour of the Phnom Rung and Prasat Muang Tam temple which was just a silly price. We then spoke to a motorbike driver who wanted 400 baht. Luckily, a bus was leaving for the village of Bak Ta Pek which is a few kilometres away from the temples, so we hopped on it and got off at the village. Another slice of luck came our way as a women in a pickup with some children in the back was heading to the Phnom Rung temple took us as well - for nothing!
After I visited Phnom Rung, I wanted to visit Prasat Muang Tam and so stood outside some restaurants along the road outside the temple entrance and luckily got a lift with a couple from Surin in their Toyota mini-bus and visited the other temple. I then had to wait a while in order to get back to Phnom Rung and got another lift in the back of another pickup. I then met up with the Israeli couple and we managed, after some time waiting and flagging down vehicles heading towards Nang Rong, to get a lift in another pickup with two young girls in the back. So, it's not that easy to get to the temples and to get from one to the other so it's best to hire a bike if you can. But all I spent was 20 baht for the bus instead of 250 baht for a bike!
