 | Chiang Mai Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 64 | | Honestly, I really do not know if I should classify this as a "to do" activity, or a tourist trap. On one hand, if you have never been to any sort of night markets in Thailand, you will definitely be overwhelmed by the huge number of stalls, selling interesting items targetting your tourist dollar. On the other hand, if you had been to one (whether in Phuket, Bangkok, etc...), you really had been to all. While there are really many stalls, those selling unique items are far and in between. The stalls are very repetitive an as they are simply regurgitating various categories of mass produced tourist souvenirs. But if you have never been to one, then the night bazaar in Chiang Mai is bound to impress with its sheer size. It seems to go on and on and there are even buildings (like the Night Bazaar Plaza shown in the photo) housing stalls on multiple levels! Chiang Mai possibly being a more laid back city, seems to have merchants who are friendlier and less aggressive too. Their initial asking prices are already quite reasonable and thus, not much bargaining is necessary. This is in very strong contrast to the very mercenary merchants in Bangkok (especially in Patpong Night Market), in which their initial asking price can go up to 1000% of the value of the item. The Good View Bar & Restaurant, together with The Riverside Bar & Restaurant, are two of the most famous night spots in downtown Chiang Mai. Situated beside River Ping, both spots offer their patrons a nice unobstructed view of the river while serenading them with live music. Both venues are popular, with The Riverside having a slight edge possibly due to its slightly more central location. Regardless, do turn up early because by 7.30pm, they are usually already fully packed, regardless of whether is it peak travelling season or not.

I am not sure why is Simon having dreams about drag queens and transexuals, but "journey to the Simon's dream" is the marketing phrase they are using for the show. What is certain however, is that the Simon Cabaret in Phuket is widely known as one of the best cabaret show in South East Asia and they have finally landed in Chiang Mai as well. And what a show it was! Staged in an air-cooled area that can seat an audience of 800, there is one large center stage and 2 smaller side stages. The show was an evening of engaging performances among extravagant sets, opulent costumes, dazzling lighting and familiar show tunes. There are 2 performances daily, one at 7.30pm and another at 9.30pm. Admission is 400 baht person, but if you had booked from a tour agency which includes hotel transfer, then it will be 500 baht per person. More photos are available here. Leave a Comment

This place has just opened and is already talk of the town. Mostly hip rich looking Thais but also a good mix of locals and students. Had either bands or DJs each time we went. Cool metal and glass building, a real refreshing change from all the typical same-same venues in Chiang Mai. Good food too, good Chicken Knuckles. Some of the hottest girls in town too, but after their killer cocktails we didn't get lucky. (That's our excuse anyway). Next time, next time.
Like, whatever, every one seems to wear jeans or short skirts. Not a single Red Bull t-shirt or backpacker spotted thank god. We had a map from some mag ad that helped.

The Night Bazaar offers a wide-range of shopping from open air street vendors to sidewalks and small boutiques. There are a wide variety of dining and shopping along Chang Khlan Road. It is your chance to make use of your haggling and bargaining skills. You can buy anything from handicraft especially made by hilltribe, clothings, shoes, T-Shirt, accessories. The Nakhorn Ping Night Bazaar Building, Kalare Night Bazaar, The Peak offers an open-air dining terrace and free performances of classical dancing and performances. However, I would strongly recommend that you make your purchases at the Sunday Night Market and Warorot Market. The price are fixed and you dont really have to bargain hard. I spent more time enjoying the cheap and excellent massage services and rotee than shopping along here.

There are tons of bars in Chiang Mai. I personally recommend the Hard Rock Cafe and the Hemp Cafe. The Hemp Cafe has come great fruit and other drinks and is also pretty good for breakfast. The Hard Rock Cafe has some awesome and enjoyable music! And there are many other places to be explored around the city!

Hard to believe that there should be shops that actually only open when it gets dark, but so it is. If you walk by in the morning, nothing is here but some empty stalls. In the late afternoon the vendors arrive and begin to hang up and lay out the things they have to sell. They take it back down every morning and leave nothing there. It really astounded me, because it was so much. So many shops and shops. You can find everything you want and more, beginning from clothes to jewelry, to decorations, to ... I donīt know what. Also it is quite huge. I think I only saw 2 streets, but there are many more. You can walk in and find side roads and shops in the houses... Take care you donīt get into a buying frenzy - even if it is quite cheap (and donīt forget to haggle) ... remember the place in your luggage and the weight is limited.

I would recommend this place for dinner, romantic cruise, or just plain good bar music. Food is great there, but definitely more expensive than the restaurants in the night bazaar. We ordered a seafood souffle and deep fried soft shell crab and the dishes came out to about $100-150THB each. We also saw filt mignon on the menu for $240THB which is a great deal! Our honeymooner friends came to this restaurant to enjoy the view at night via their cruise. You should plan on arriving around 7ish and have a few drinks in the bar. Then you can board on their ship for a romantic cruise. If you like live music, then this place has 2 great cover band. They have 1 band in the main bar and the other band in the back of the restaurant. The bands play all kinds of music ranging from alternative to rock to 70's. The bar gets packed so make sure you grab a seat as soon as you see one.
