 | Chiang Rai Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 28 | | One of the best place to eat in Chng Rai is the food court in the centre of town. They have loads of stalls with all sorts of different foods. Prices are low and food is fresh. They also have live music or folk theatre, and other things going on which makes it all quite good fun. There's a night market here every night so before or after dinner you can go shopping! It's a typical Thai/Chinese restaurant with the food prepared in the front. Haven't had Chinese style bbq pork for a long time, when I saw them being prepared, I quickly entered the restaurant. And it was delicious! The restaurant also serves chicken rice and roast duck, as well as other items. English menu is available. As shown in the photo: bbq pork rice with soup and an iced coffee: 40 B. Thai hot pot is very similar to Chinese hot pot, except that there is a grill plate in the center of the pot. It is called "moo kata" in Thai, meaning a pot with pork. So you'll find all kinds of pork here, plus just about anything else. Hot water is poured into the surrounding pot, which is powered by hot charcoal below it. First you put the pork fat on the grill so that the food doesn't stick on it. Then you simply put the food on either the grill plate or the hot water to cook it. Once it's done, you dip it into the sauce, and eat! This is an all you can eat restaurant, and it's better to get here early, even though the restaurant is opened until midnight, it seems like they don't refill the food after 9 or so. We were there at 7:30 and the food selection is still good. (They open at 5pm.) There is a variety of meat, fish balls, vegetables and dessert. Simply grab whatever you want from the table outside, bring it back and cook it in the pot. You can refill as many times as you want. Few seats are under the roof, and it can get cold after dark. There is a large screen showing Thai tv. So you can enjoy the entertainment as you eat. Drinks, of course, are not part of the all you can eat deal. That's how they make money. Each person is 69B excluding drinks. It is certainly an interesting experience if you never have hot pot before. The only complaint is that the food takes a long time to cook, as compare to Chinese hot pot. My Thai friends told me to let the food sit inside the pot for at least 10 minutes if you don't want to get sick. The Restaurant is located a little outside right at a River. While you are dining or lunchnig you have a real nice view. They let water run down the open spaces on long threads to cool the air a litle - quite nice when it is so hot.
They serve the classical Thai dishes. Simple but well done Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: Kraisorasit Road, Amphur Muang, Chiang RaiPhone: 0 5371 5345

The best meal at the SIPSONG-PANNA DINNIG ROOM has got to be the lunch buffet. It's amazing . There are so many choices and everything is delicious. It is surely a feast . the only problem is deciding what to have. There are various Tai Yai (Shan) specialities such as Kao Soy 9 egg noodle curry), Khanom Jeen Nam Ngiew (spicy rice noodles) or the famous Tai Lue dish, Kaw Ham Kuen . So many seafood and meat dishes to choose from . The only thing is , it's popular with tour grouos so come early.
I loved the red curries!! Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Chiang RaiDirections: Located in the Rimkok Hotel

Noodles soup can be served for any meals and even snacks in Thailand. There are different kinds of noodles to choose from. I don't know their names in Thai, I usually just point to the one I like. There are also different ingredients, such as pork, fish balls, or chicken. Thai people always love to add extra sugar, vinegar, pepper and fish sauce etc to the soup, even though the soup is already tasty enough, they still add more. This is a market stall in Chiang Rai. A bowl of noodles soup cost 20 B. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Shouldn't be too difficult to find in Thailand. You'll see the noodles and hot steam from the large cooking bowl in the store front.

Every chance I got to pick up a roti, I did. I found this one at the entrance to the Centerpointe night bazaar. Correction, my noise led me to this one at the night bazaar. Rotis are simply delicious. They're comparable to crepes and pancakes, and prepared a variety of ways, i.e., with bananas and chocolate, with eggs, etc. However, I prefer mine simply topped with sweet milk (condensed milk) and sugar. Yummy!!! Cost wise, they average between 8 Bht to 30 Bht. That's not even a buck. What a deal! Roti is a popular snack in Thailand. It is made of flour and cooked on the hot plate with butter. Eggs, evaporated milk, and banana can be added. In Chiang Rai, a permanant street stall can be found near the clock tower, at the southwest corner of Banphaprakan Road and Jet Yot Road. Banana roti cost 17B. I think the plain ones cost around 10B. Another typical Thai/Chinese restaurant with great varieties of food. It can be busy sometimes at night. They have a huge tv showing Thai tv drama inside. I had breakfast and dinner here before. Breakfast was Chinese style: a bowl of congee (rice porriage) with pork (20B). For dinner I saw the porcerlin jar with soup in a huge steamer. Looks good, and that's what I had that night. It was a Chinese style soup with chicken and fuzzy melon. And I ordered a bowl of steam rice. All for 35 B. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: I don't think there is an English sign. It is at the corner of Phahonyothin Road and Sanpannat Road, just a few steps from the Wiang Inn.

I've tried all kinds of Thai dessert before, they are usually extra sweet. The most refreshing is the ice grass jelly. It is very simple, made with: grass jelly, ice, and a little bit of coconut milk. Grass jelly doesn't look very appealing, as it is like jello, but is black in colour. It is very popular in many Southeast Asian countries, as well as China and Taiwan. It is made with some type of grass, and can cools you down in a hot day. In Chiang Rai, you can find ice grass jelly at a restaurant at the NE corner of Banphaprakan Road and Itsaraphap Road, very close to the mosque. 10 B for a bowl. For other types of dessert, you can also find in this restaurant, and another one a couple of shops east of it. How can you tell? If the Thai dessert is served, you'll see what's available at the front of the restaurant. And they are also found in the street stalls. 10 B for a bag. Leave a Comment
