Orchids cultivated in Thailand are generally all warm growing and to achieve best results these growing conditions must be maintained.
Many districts have dry periods with little or no rain and over the centuries orchids have adapted to these conditions. Nurserymen replicate these conditions by monitoring overhead watering and maintaining humidity through the underbench ponds.
Doi Saket Nursery is to the forefront with modern orchid cultivation.

Doi Saket is a large scale commercial orchid nursery with tens of thousands of orchids under shadecloth. You will not find any hothouse, cooling equipment used on this nursery as all the orchids cultivated are warm tolerant plants.
There were several displays of plants in flower.

Our morning visit to Doi Saket Orchid Nursery became a time consuming journey in our new Double Decker bus. We were travelling in luxury but our guides overlooked the fact that the orchid nursery was a fair distance off the highway. We were in rural Thailand and although the country roads were bitumen they were only used by farm vehicles, small cars and motorbikes.
Tall trees overhung the roads, but worse was to come when the bus had virtually fallen back to "walking speed" we hit some power lines crossing the road. The bus halted, then we realised what had happened. Silence!
The Thais' are very innovated and one of the locals hopped out and held the lines up with a pole whilst the bus slowly moved on. This procedure continued for the next half hour until we reached the nursery.
Doi Saket is a large scale commercial nursery catering to the international mail order orchid community, in particular the United States of America.
We were several hours at the nursery, many plants were purchased and it was interesting to view the orchids and learn about the cultivation practices.
