Hey, there are many restaurant to choose from on either side of the border. But youwill find the best value to be on the Thailand side of the border. The local food is great and being that I am not a chef I can't really describe it other than to say its Thai food, its fresh, and its good to eat.

Try the shrimp.......plenty of rivers near by (do shrimp live in fresh water?) so that type of food is usually a good choice. The local Tom Kar Khai (a spicy coconut broth soup with chicken and mushrooms) is always a good choice!

Every night a hundred or more of these portable street stall restaurants line the min boulevrd in Mae Sai and offer all sorts of very tasty northern Thai dishes. For 50 baht (about $1.10) you can't beat the price!

I had my best plate of Pad Thai right here at the food stand in this photo. It makes for a great mid night snack or dinner!

I'm not sure how to describe this place but it seems to be one of the more happening restaurants in Mae Sai (for a sleepy border town). There is no guarantee that this restaurant will still be in business when you get there but its worth a visit if you happen by it. There is a pool table in the back of the restaurant, loud music, a small bar, and a nice barbeque set up out front where they grill different assortments of meat such as beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, & prawns. I saw all types of people here. Thai border guards, western backpackers, and locals. It seems to cater mostly to travellers.

The owner has a large barbeque out front where he grills various meats, prawns, and shish kababs which are pretty good with some cold Singh beer.

A lot of people that live ini that area come from China.
They fled after the Mao regime took over the power and stayed here later.
So lots of shops have chinese signs on it and you can find a real chinese Restaurant here with genuine chinese specialities.

The view over the hills is very pleasant, so try to sit outside, if you can.

(They also have rooms, if you want to stay here)
