Take a truck to the bridge to Myanmar, and wander a little way past the souvenir shops to the south and you may be lucky to catch elephants at work. This is particularly interesting to observe as it is not a show especially for tourists which you can see all too often throughout the Kingdom.

Moei river, a few kms from Mae Sot, marks the border between Thailand and Myanmar. The Burmese town of Myawaddy can be seen on the other side.
There is no bridge and no real ferry to cross the river. Just a small boat and many people just walk across the river, as it is not so deep.
The border is open only for Thai and Burmese citizens. I tried to negotiate with the border guards to have a "daily pass" to visit Burma just for the day; first they said OK (for 10 USD) but then after a radio conversation with Burmese police on the other side and one hour waiting, it turned out that it was not possible due to "security reasons".
