Favorite thing: This town is very bibbly bobbly and full of alternative magic healing stuff. It therefore attracts that crowd. Coming out of the bus station the further east and south you go the quieter and less bibbly bobbly the town is.
it is however a nice place to hang out. Many very nice bungalows by the river. Left out of the bus station then lefy at the turning pass the wat (100 m max)

Favorite thing: Waterfall: really cold water for cooling down...Sun until early afternoon, to reach by motorbike through Lahu and the hilltribe villages on the mountain
Mae Yen Waterfall :
This waterfall is Pai's most beautiful and can only be reached by a fairly difficult hike of about 3 hours.
The total drop is about 30 m and most times of the year significant water flows to provide bathing and a serene place to the enjoy your lunch. If you are quiet and observant, you will see jungle animals along the way

Favorite thing: My favorite thing about Pai is that you never know what day it is, nobody else knows what day it is and nobody cares!
You can find some good info on Pai at:

Fondest memory: My fondest memories of Pai are laying in my hammok, riding the elephants and sitting around with everyone at night playing music, singing, chatting and expanding our states of mind!

Favorite thing: Pai is another non-descrptive northern town (village actually) that is restricted to about 4 streets... most of them taken over by the growing tourist industry. There are several agents organizing day trips to neighbouring tribal villages, or multi-day trekking adventures in the surrounding hills and mountains.
Fondest memory: Pai is also a place with several natural hot springs... so this is definitely my fondest memory: after nightfall, speing a few hours in and out of a hot pool with an Israeli traveller I met. The second fond memory are some funny shop windows in town: thai things side-by-side with western things... looked so out of place.

Favorite thing: Whether it be lizards, moths or butterflies. They all appeared to be larger than normal. It was almost as if a nuclear accident had happened that only effected the insects and lizards.

Days will melt away in this welcoming area. Although it has become quite touristy, when I was there in low season it was very relaxing and we didn't feel crowded at all.
