Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: sturdy shoes to visit the caves DO make sense!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: This is one of the two areas of Thailand where there'a a high-risk of malaria, so it makes sense to stock up with good repellent. it's also a good idea to use malarone (or to have it as emergency-treatment at least).
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: a swimsuit is recommended for hotmineral baths, especially those in the "wildreness" - and maybe a sarong too, since locals bathe in sarongs!

surrounded by 2300 meter high mountains (ends of himalaya), pai is about 1.500 m high. so, cool enough to sleep well at night :)

Days will melt away in this welcoming area. Although it has become quite touristy, when I was there in low season it was very relaxing and we didn't feel crowded at all.
