Umphang is a great place for trekking along the forested and mountainous land, pass many hill tribe villages, natural tropical forest. Tak province is about 426 kms north of Bangkok, but to reach Umphang must ride for 4 hours climb up the mountains over 1200 curves. Umphang is populated mostly by Karen people and former is a Karen settlement, today its home of several hill tribes including Lisu, Hmong, Mien and Lahu. The famous attraction here is Thi Lou Sue Waterfall. It's the biggest and the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand. You can do rafting, there's some beautiful waterfalls along the raft. The Umphang trip must included a trek at Doi Hua Mot or Hua Mot Hill. limestone hills without single large tree but carpeted by blossoming shrubs and wild flowers. The peak of Doi Hua Mot is ideal place to appreciate the Sea of mist and spectacular sunrise at dawn. The lookout point provides a panoramic view of Umphang and the breathtaking lush, fertile forests. Don't forget to check out Takhobi cave, a beautiful cave in the area.
