What can be seen on Thailands roads never fails to surprise me.
It is not only the way people drive - something between reckless and intuitive ... but also how the vehicles they have are in shape.
With some you wonder if it is the color that holds it together - because there is so much rust underneath.

Others are so overloaded .. you can hardly see the car under it (see picture).
As a comparison: the one that is overtaking is a Toyota Hiace or similiar...

    slightly overloaded?

Be very cautious on a motorbike!

This cannot be stressed enough I guess. It seems that almost everyone who hires a motorbike will go through at least some minor miss-hap. Scraped knees and elbows are a common thing, but they are minor in comparison to what can happen. This warning is simply to be very cautious of everything that happens around you while you are riding, accidents can happen very easily if two drivers/riders let down their guard. Speaking from experience I would suggest that one doesn't try to do something if you don't feel confident or comfortable, don't push your luck when overtaking vehicles, take extra care if you ride during the Songkran festival, when the roads can be covered with water and can be very, very slippery. If you are on a highway use both of your mirrors, just do all the things that a responsible driver would do, do not ever let your guard down.

    Smoke pollution

by ozpom Updated Apr 4, 2011

Just got back from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai where the illegal burning has created extensive tracts of smoke filled landscape. Travellers should be aware as there is a significant impact upon breathing with viz down to about 800 metres in places. Cheers, Ozpom

As in all mountainous areas, the weather in Chiangmai and surrounding areas can change very fast. Be carefully, especially if you are doing hiking in the mountain areas around Chiangmai.

    Fog moving into the city
