We traveled for one full month throughout China, Thailand, Cambodia & Thailand. We only brought 2 carry on bags with us! You may purchase large suitcases for your return trip home. It is cheaper to check in as excess baaggage than it is to ship back to homeland.
2 pairs of Jeans (one we wore on) 2 pair shorts 5 T-shirts 2 short sleeved dual purpose shirts (semi dressy, but casual) 1 long sleeved shirt 5 pair socks 5 underclothing Sneakers & 1 set of sandals.
obvious toiletries such as toothbrush, paste, dedorant plus: Any medications and copies of their prescriptions from your doctor in case of loss. BandAids for minor cuts/scrapes & blisters Neosporin Broad Spectrum Antibiotic for Bacterial infections. Sun block (Bullfrog is wonderful & waterproof) Mosquito repellent with DEET Excedrin/Aspirin
Digital is the way to go!!! If you're spending any time here, purchase a 2 or 3 GB flash card which will hold up to 3000 pictures. Also: an optional "WOLVERINE" hard drive, approx. the size of a palm pilot to download your images into and provides safe way to store until you reach an internet cafe or, return home.
Photocopy into triplicate all your important papers, i.e., Passport, Drivers License, Visa and Traveler's Cheques. Staple and separate into 3 different areas: 1 Suitcase pocket, 1 backpack pocket, 1 wallet. Keep your originals in your rooms safety deposit box or, hotel safe. You should always have access to a copy in case of theft or loss. Leave a Comment

Taxi's going past Mike's Shopping Mall- Pattaya by shelnlin When travelling to Thailand the first thing to remember is that it is actually an affordable country and items such as Bags, Clothes, etc... are very cheap. A suitable medium sized suitcase or large back pack should be fine. If you require more luggage you can get it while you are there.
Clothing is extremely affordable and of very good quality in Thailand. If you are interested, you may like to have a suit or some clothes made for you or you may also like to buy some affordable yet good quality copied "brand named" clothes. These are just as good as the real thing and they don't fall apart after you have washed them. The cotton is very good and the workmanship is just as good as your own ones that you are wearing. You are also spoilt for choice when it comes to colours too!
Much of your toileteries and medical supplies can be found quite easily in either a Chemist or in one of the little supermarkets. I noticed how affordable some of the skin care products were in Thailand and brought some back with me when I came home. A good thing to take with you is plenty of rehydrating salts and lots of sunblock, again if you run out you can always buy more when you get there.
As I have a Digital camera I did not have to worry about looking around for Photo equipment so I cannot say what you need to bring.
Again I did not have the need to worry about this so I cannot say, but I am sure that there are plenty of places which are avaliable to you.
Big C is a great department store in Pattaya and stocks alot of good stuff from clothes to electronics. I think this Department store is in Bangkok as well. Mike Shopping Mall is a good one to purchase all your copied Clothes and any souvenirs. But be warned, these guys will charge you more in Mikes for the souvenirs because they are indoors and in air con and have all their overheads to pay etc... Click on the Big C icon website and when you get there click on the Union Jack flag on the left hand side of the page if you want to view the site in English. Leave a Comment

just before leaving home by call_me_rhia my first advice is to bring all the backpacks and bags that you need from your home country. I mean, don't just assume you will buy a cheap imitation and be happy with it. I know someone who left with a small bag and thought she'd buy a fake backpack as soon as she got to Bangkok. She did, it was not exactly cheap to be a fake and, on top of this, 5 days later it gloriously fell apart.
whatever you think it's suitable - i'd avoid mini-skirts and tank tops if you're going anywhere outside beach resorts
it's a necessity if you are planning on going hiking, but it will also come in handy at many restaurants's toilets or bus stations' toilets. Don't assume you'll just find it (normally you don't)
a padlock can come in handy Leave a Comment

by Ellainne For tourist everyone is looking forward for the daytour it's better to carry a belt bag or shoulder bag for your hotel keys, passport, wallet and camera.
Wear canvas or rubber shoes when travelling + sunglasses.
Sunblock because the Sun really shine here and bottled water during your tour.
Extra batteries in your bag but if you ran out there's available convenient store anywhere.
Always bring bottled water with you it's not that you dont trust their water but touring is quite dehydrating :P MOST OF ALL... when you get to Don Muang Airport grab a MAP this will help you in every destination. Leave a Comment

by slaybelle What To Wear : Light, loose cotton clothing is best. Nylon should be avoided. Sweaters are needed during the cool season evenings or if visiting mountainous areas or national parks. Jackets and ties are required in a few restaurants and nightclubs. Neat clothes are required for entering temples or palaces. Leave a Comment

Umbrella for the storm. Sun block for the sun.
Alternatively, to make yourself more comfortable in the hot and humid climate, buy a type of powder from the shops in Thailand and apply all over your body. It cools you down. Beware, not too much else it gets too cooling! Leave a Comment

Take an extra bag along that is empty as you might want to fill it with things you buy there. Or buy a bag there - MBK in Bangkok has lots of luggage and prices can be good. Also, the night bazaar in Chiangmai has lots of luggage to choose from. Top brand names (unless they are fakes) will be more expensive here than they are in your country.
If you are big (tall or fat), take clothing along with you as it can be hard to find off the rack there. You might think about having clothing made for you while there because it can be quite reasonable (but not in places like Hua Hin, Phuket, etc.) The Sukhumvit area has lots of tailor shops to choose from, so have a look around and compare. And take an article of clothing along that you like and they will copy it for you - the shops are very good at that. Definitely bring your good shoes with you if you have special or large feet. If you want cheap sandals, there are lots to choose from here, but large sizes again are very hard to find. continued under misc..
Virtually all medication (unless for very specific prescription conditions) is available over the counter in Thailand. The difficulty might be in explaining your problem to the pharmasist. Honestly, lighten your load buy leaving all the 'just in case' stuff at home. Pharmacies are all over , even in little amphur towns, and open every day.
Cameras are not very cheap there relative to north american prices, so don't plan on going to buy a cheap camera. Flim isn't cheaper either, but development is reasonable.
Camping gear is hard to find so you might want to bring your own if you plan to do a lot of it (few do as it seems you are never far from reasonable accomodation).
For dressing there, try to be conservative. A light shirt (pressed) and long light pants are your best bet, and shorts are ok too (as long as nothing is erm.. exposed). Laundry is pretty cheap for most people, so having clean ironed clothes won't be a problem (your washed clothing is always brought back to you ironed). If you are a budget traveller, take clothing that dries quickly so that you can wash it and wear it the next day. And in this case, i woudn't worry about finding hot rocks with which to iron your clothing. Putting them under a mattress overnight works well for the just-ironed look. Leave a Comment
