What and how to pack for Thailand vacation

by bebycik

Unless you're staying in major cities such as Bangkok, you are likely to face situations with no paved roads and small spaces to put your belongings. A backpack is the best solution for that-- we went to Thailand for 2 weeks and didn't even have to check in the luggage once! If you're planning to do a lot of shopping while there, it is much cheaper to buy a new bag to put all your new stuff into. Even if you're going during the hot season, make sure you bring something that covers your shoulders and knees. Also grab a pair of shoes with close toes. While Thais don't mind you walking into their wats (temples), they would prefer if you do so in "polite" attire. Also, bring a towel if space permits-- if your hotel does not have beach access, they're probably not going to provide beach towels. Go to your neighborhood super-mart and grab one of those 99 cents travel toilet paper rolls. Best...

Don't pack much!

by Tara2001

A big bag with not much in it if you plan to shop! It is extremely hot, so cool light clothing and good walking shoes are essential. Also, remember to cover up if you are visiting temples. Mosquito repellent! Imodium will also come in handy... Buy it out there, its much cheaper!

Travel light! Laundry services are cheap!

by Homanded

We traveled for one full month throughout China, Thailand, Cambodia & Thailand. We only brought 2 carry on bags with us!You may purchase large suitcases for your return trip home. It is cheaper to check in as excess baaggage than it is to ship back to homeland. 2 pairs of Jeans (one we wore on)2 pair shorts5 T-shirts2 short sleeved dual purpose shirts (semi dressy, but casual)1 long sleeved shirt5 pair socks5 underclothingSneakers & 1 set of sandals. obvious toiletries such as toothbrush, paste, dedorant plus:Any medications and copies of their prescriptions from your doctor in case of loss.BandAids for minor cuts/scrapes & blistersNeosporinBroad Spectrum Antibiotic for Bacterial infections.Sun block (Bullfrog is wonderful & waterproof)Mosquito repellent with DEETExcedrin/Aspirin Digital is the way to go!!! If you're spending any time here, purchase a 2 or 3 GB flash card which will...

Ladies The diva cup simplifys your life

by haveatisue

The Diva cup is so much better than tampons or pads. It's as much of an improvement as switching from dial-up internet to broadband. Yes it seems a bit pricey, but it's less than six months worth of sanitary supplies. I was in a remote area of Nepal for two months and it saved me the embarassment and hassel of other menstral products. divacup.com

Bear this in mind...

by Ellainne

For tourist everyone is looking forward for the daytour it's better to carry a belt bag or shoulder bag for your hotel keys, passport, wallet and camera. Wear canvas or rubber shoes when travelling + sunglasses. Sunblock because the Sun really shine here and bottled water during your tour. Extra batteries in your bag but if you ran out there's available convenient store anywhere. Always bring bottled water with you it's not that you dont trust their water but touring is quite dehydrating :P MOST OF ALL... when you get to Don Muang Airport grab a MAP this will help you in every destination.

30% Deet Repellent worked great

by Garfield56

Small LED type flash lite was a big help for field trips.Put a set of travel plans and extra bag tags inside your luggage, in case it's lost or damaged. If your going to visit the temples , Wats, or Historical Places... Velcro sneakers , or slip on shoes are a must ! Toilet paper for the more out of the way areas. If you have breathing problems or allergies avoid the open train cars, pay the extra for the A/C.Medicated Band-aids BLUE FILTER to remove the HAZE of smoke and pollution from your photos. A clear UV filter for your cam is good protection for your lenses. 30 Sun Block worked very well, for Pataya Beach

Underwater Camera

by loutzenhiser

Even if you don't plan to do any snorkeling or diving, bring a cheap underwater camera. On several of the islands, fish are close enough to the beach that you don't even have to swim out very far to see them (especially since a lot of people feed them.) Also - if you are going to Song Kran (Thai New Year - mid-April) the entire country turns into a giant water fight - and your regular camera will get ruinied.
