Weather & clothing

Thin cotton is the best. A jacket or sweater may be necessary in the cool season, especially in a mountainous area in the North or Northeast. Temperature varies from 38° C to 19°C; humidity from 82.8% to 66%Hot (March to May), rainy (June to October) and cool (November to February).

Don't even bother with a rain jacket! Even a lightweight one is too much. Bring a umbrella or just tough it out. The downpours don't last too long. Everyone recommended malaria pills esp if you go to remote areas. I'm not sure if they were absolutely necessary but I'm glad I didn't find out. Neosporin is a must - all those little nicks get infected in the heat and humidity. Baby powder also came in handy

Credit card (or cash), passport and flight coupons

by felix.austria

Credit card (or cash), passport and flight coupons are the things you _really_ need. Anything else you can buy there, usually cheaper than elsewhere. The driving license is necessary as well, if you plan to rent a car or motorbike. For all other things, you can consult the link below (in German, not specific for Thailand). Appears to be a complete list.

Pack as little as possible

by shelnlin

When travelling to Thailand the first thing to remember is that it is actually an affordable country and items such as Bags, Clothes, etc... are very cheap. A suitable medium sized suitcase or large back pack should be fine. If you require more luggage you can get it while you are there. Clothing is extremely affordable and of very good quality in Thailand. If you are interested, you may like to have a suit or some clothes made for you or you may also like to buy some affordable yet good quality copied "brand named" clothes. These are just as good as the real thing and they don't fall apart after you have washed them. The cotton is very good and the workmanship is just as good as your own ones that you are wearing. You are also spoilt for choice when it comes to colours too! Much of your toileteries and medical supplies can be found quite easily in either a Chemist or in one of the...

Pack Light

by beaniezotzim

We backpaked it. It worked out really well, most people we encountered were backpacking it also. we were budget traveling so we had to carry our packs wherever we went so the backpacks were perfect. clothing: light, breathable clothing... pack LIGHT if you didnt bring enough, the clothes are so cheap in Thailand you can just buy some... my husband and I packed too much and wound up sending 25lbs worth of clothes home! and we thought we packed light!Shoes: A pair of flops and a pair of tennis shoes if you are planning on hiking. in this picture, we bought 3 pairs of pants, 3 dresses, 2 pairs of mens shorts, 2 pairs of earings, and a top for less than $20 US (in Kanchanabury. it was cheapest there near the bridge over the river kwae)*if you plan on visiting any wats or temples, make sure you have some clothes for the occasion, you should dress respectably. tampons were not easy to find....

WHAT TO BRING

by vigi

Bring as little as possible... a medium sized backpack plus a small sling bag or duffel bag is good enough. You can get everything cheap in Thailand. Perhaps you may bring one empty luggage for carrying shopping stuff back home.

Lost luggage!

by MaidenTsar

...since Continental lost my luggage, all that I read prior to my trip, paid off! I needed everything! It's accurate, being 'small' is a plus. Small in most standards, is medium to large in Thai standards. If you need receipts, it can be a challenge. Vendor's English is usually limited to money exchange..... Being a medical person, I was blown away by the access to pharmaceuticals! Antibiotics and other Rx. preparations is so available! A good opportunity to help someone who normally has to pay a lot of money for meds.!
