Packing List

Thailand has everything you need, Dont take too many bags with you. Even if you need to buy bags or suitcase you have it everywhere you go and very cheap, so make it easy on yourself and don't make the same mistake I did. If you go in the good season which is from Nov'- Mar' you sure don't have to take many things with you, its very hot there and basically you better take a few shirts (as light as possible) and shorts, if you'll need more then buy it there, EVERYWHERE you go and unbelievably cheap. If you want to dress nice on evenings take also a few things, don't exaggerate. The same with shoes, take a pair sandals or other open shoes unless if you are on some treaks, then take the right high and close shoes, other wise its not really needed. Take all needed injections to the area you go, check that in Your local medical services, and Don't forget to take things against moskitos very...

Bring large suitcases, but pack little. You'll have a large load to bring home, especially if you like to shop. You can get everything in Thailand, and a lot of things are cheaper there. For girls, the shoe market is unbelieveable. Those with cell phones, you can get new face plates at almost every corner. And lots of music and cd-roms and such. Everything imaginable. Bring light clothing! It's hot in Thailand! If you're planning on visiting a temple like Wat Pragaw, (is that how to spell it?), you either need to wear pants or a skirt (a decent skirt). You can buy sandals (as I said above), and you can buy clothing. Asians are typicially smaller than Americans, but they have lots of sizes. You can bargain with the shops, too, if they are small (not at department stores). I ended up wearing long sleeve and pants because my mosquito allergies once I got up to Chiang Mai, but you probably...

Bring a backpack with LOTS of extra room. Things are dirt cheap in Thailand - everything from CDs to clothes to kitchenwear is so inexpensive. Thailand is hot - bring lots of light clothes and good walking shoes. If you want to go into the Wats (temples) or the Grand Palace in Bangkok, bring something that will completely cover your legs (sarongs are not always accepted) and shoes with ankle straps (tevas were ok). bathing suit/sarong is good around Phuket/Ko Samui/other resort or island areas. Bring everything you think you'll need - because it's a bit hard to figure out what things are if you don't read Thai . . . and most travelers don't. Go figure. Bring extra batteries at the very least. I'd bring your own film, too, since film doesn't always do well in heat - and it's hard to tell how long the film in the stores has been sitting out in the heat. Camping, especially in the...

Pack the lightest clothes that you can. Cotton would work best. Thailand has three seasons...hot, hotter, and hottest. Be sure to pack a hat that gives good coverage to the face, you will be glad you did. SUNBLOCK,SUNBLOCK, AND MORE SUNBLOCK! If travelling to an island and intend to stay in bungalow style accomodations be sure to pack deet to ward off those pesky mosquitoes. Allegedly, for those who insist on homeopathic remedies, vitamin B6 will also do the trick.

Being Cool

by yeah_baby

During the day, Koh Phangan could pass for any beach resort, white sand, crystal clear water, bikinis. But closer, one might start to notice the abundance of tattoos and dreadlocks, piercings and Red Bull T-shirts. There is a particular uniform of the global elite that gathers at Hat Rin. Sarongs are a must, for both males and females, as are the ¾ length pants worn by nearly everyone on the beach. Sandals are an essential part of the uniform - the tricky part is what sort of sandal to wear. Wearing a sexy sandal runs the risk of being uncool, as it so obviously doesn't fit the surroundings. The flip-flop, which says of the wearer, 'I'm so hip I don't even care,' is probably the coolest backpacker footwear. These are the basics of the uniform. Add some tribal jewelry, a toe-ring, a backpack and you're in business. Koh Phangan is a sort of mecca, perfectly suited to the young...

For my one month trip to Delhi and Thailand I had only one carry-on backpack. It was funny when Husain met me at the airport (in Delhi) he apparently thought I had lost a piece of luggage! I also had a little shoulder bag which I then changed for a larger Esprit shoulder bag at the end of my Thailand trip which Monique and I found on sale! I still had no check-in baggage which is a wonderful time saver. light-weight quick-drying trousers for hanging around in, some nicer ones for the airport, one sweater for the airport is also a good idea. Cheap tops you can get here. Sandals you get here too! I bought 4 pairs!! Maybe bring good walking shoes for jumping in and out of boats! Ginseng... ;)) Nothing more needed, again I went crazy at the cosmetics counters and stores... the best brands at half or less of the price in Japan!! Aaaaah :D oh, just one tip: if you will be staying on an...

Bring as little as possible for either a week-long trip or one of several months. I usually take a wheel-aboard carry-on and inside that I'll take another collapsible bag for purchases/gifts I bring back. Usually I save my shopping for the last few days so I'm not burdened carrying the lot around on planes, boats, trains and besides the wheels and the size of the carry-on makes it easy to maneuver through airports, depots, docks and bus stations. I'll never again do the backpack---too cumbersome and uncomfortable for you and those around you. Laundry service is available everwhere so bring only a few comfortable items along. You may do your own washing as you go along or buy things as the need arises. I normally wear my best outfit on the plane and use it for activities/events where dressing up is required; also same with shoes altho' I am usually in sandals the entire trip unless I'm...

depending on what you intend to lug around.. actually, anything is fine.. just make sure that you've got lots of extra space for all the things that you're gonna buy there.. and that's lots!! if you're in the city, have comfy clothes to walk around coz it can get pretty hot.. for koh samui, dun forget your itsy bitsy bikini and little black dress.. ;) especially in bangkok, you'll have no prob getting medical supplies.. in fact, it's shocking that there are so many medicine that you can get off the shelves without a pharmacist!! the simplest, smallest camera will be the best coz you dun wanna be bogged down by it when you're bz having fun!! dun worry about batteries and film.. you can get them everywhere..
