Ice Cream

by pinkduck

Svensons Ice Cream. All over Bangkok and then ice cream is fabulous - - we often had an Earthquake -- which is a dish (more like a salad bowl) of icream and topping (all flavours nad nut choc bits and everything. They were great.do not go without having at least one - - There was not an ice cream I tried there that I did not like. (I think we tried them all int he time we were there)

Cabbages and Condoms: Unusual name but great food

by pinkduck

I have ticked Dinner in the list above but it is open for lunch as well - - 7 days a week.Started by one man who was tring to cut down the birth rate in Thailand and thought that if he could get condoms in place everywhere there was a meal of cabbages then this would help to diminish the birth rate. This started a communtiy kitchen and from here this resturant grew. It now assists in containing the spread of HIV/AIDS.The meal was fabulous and the ambience even better - - we caught the sky train and walked to the resturant and thought that we were lost but the meal was worth the effort.

Soi Rambutri Street Restaurant: Good Street Food

by YaaDong

The food stand behind the temple in Soi Rambutree provides all your favorite Thai dishes, at half the rice of any restaurant. Mr Yim (smile) vegetarian is high on my list when I want a quick healthy meal. This guy knows how to work a wok ! Also all his dishes are served with fresh veggies and brown rice .The Northeastern (Isarn) food next to him is good too.Grilled chicken with sticky rice . Tofu vegtable with cashew on rice.Grilled chicken with sticky rice.Fruit shakes.

Roti Mataba: Roti Mataba Tha Phra Chan

by YaaDong

Roti Mataba (fried flatbread) which they either stuff with chicken, shrimp or vegetables..Head to the Tha Phra Chan (Pier) for awesome Roti Mataba.Try the shrimp roti mataba, satay and many favorite Thai food! Roti MatabaThai food.

Fruit Shakes Stand: Have A Fruit Shakes

by YaaDong

Try the fruit shakes around the Banglamphu area ; they taste good (which often means some condensed milk is included). Get a tasteof fruit shakes at one of the many stand on Khaosan Rd or Soi Rambutri, some offers more than 20 different varieties, including the standard mango, pineapple, watermelon, as well as the more exotic dragon fruit, guava, passion fruit, and Chinese pear. The fruit shake & coffee shop on Chakrabong Rd near the airport bus stop is very good with streetside seats .Shake stands on Soi Rambutri are also good and cheaper than khaosan.Cost: 20-45 baht ($0.80) Coconut MilkshakesMango & Orange ShakesBanana Shakes

Food for one and all

by lindyz

A person could NEVER complain about the variety and freshness of food in Thailand. From exotic spicy Thai Dishes (most of which are very cheap) to Western style restaurants (ie. Italian) to satisfying the kids with McDonalds and Subway - there is indeed something for everyone. We ate a lot at the Banana Leaf Restaurant, on the back road near the Merlin. A huge fresh delicious plate of prawns, noodles and vegies was only about $5AUD, plus they cater for kids with hamburgers, schnitzels and chips, etc. While we were in Bangkok, only 3 nights, unfortunately the only places we ate were at the Novotel and at the MBK Centre food court, the food court was up the top somewhere and very good value and variety. I would have liked to sample some nice Bangkok Restaurants, but never got around to it ... next time!

Harmonique: Yummy Thai Food

by miamilori

This restaurant is kind of hard to find but the setting is cute, the food is good and inexpensive. Look for the General Post office near the Oriental Hotel and it is on the street right next to the Post Office. I got a curry that was delicious.

moo gatar: all you can eat !!!!

by sezabell

this is great for a social night out with the locals. you pay one set price and get your own cooker on your table with hot coals in it. you go and get plates of meat and veges and put all your veges in the water around the bottom of the cooker and your meat on the top and talk and have drinkies while your waiting for it to cook. its all you can eat and you can go up as many times as you like.mainly for meat eaters but there is normaly a few tings that vegetarians can eat like rice and noddles dishes but not from your cooker as the juice from the meat goes into the veges. its all good

The Fifth Food Avenue: Excellent food, reasonable pricing

by Hartebeat

Huge variety of food. Similar (open, walk about) concept to Australia's Marche and The Village. Choose your own (different) sitting arrangements. Spoilt for choices. Italian, Thai, East Asia, Asian, Japanese...I spent 735baht for Malaysia Coconut Nasi Lemak, Apple salad, Cheesy baked potato, Tori Teri Don and Ice Lemon Tea. So many choices at only US$38 for TWO persons. Worth the money. I liked Malaysia Coconut Nasi Lemak the most. The ice lemon tea wasn't too sweet, soothes the throat after such a heavy meal.

Kwanchitr: Contemporary Thai Food

by bladyslacker

Really nice restaurant to eat at along Pahon Yothin Road.Pahon Yothin is a LONG STRETCH so make sure you get the address right.2022 Paholyothin Rd. Chatuchak, Bangkok, 10900 Tel: 0-2579-1840-1 http://kwanchitr.com/ I would say the ambience is tastier than the food... although the food is quite good. I had the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. I like it slightly raw in the centre and that was exactly what I received. Trust me. It's not easy to cook salmon to perfection. But the ambience is really something to enjoy.Whilst the Pahon Yothin Road is a traffic nightmare, Kwanchitr... tucked away from the hustle and bustle. You'll even hear flowing water from the fountain in the premises!Best of all, the al fresco atmosphere presents a really good environment to talk and chat as the jazzy music fills the air.Definitely contemporary. You won't find Thai dancing and agogo girls here.But...
