Laem Sai ( I think): Fresh Seafood

by SYMascord

Seafood is fresh. If you want lobster, order in advance, preferably a day. Fresh fish and prawns on the menu. Price is very reasonable.Good sunset and sea view. Fresh grilled groupa, barbaqued prawns with tasty Thai drips.Lobsters and crabs depending on weather. They catch on demand to ensure freshness.

Pyramid Bar: Don't miss this bar

by SYMascord

What's special? It's Mat, the owner of the place. Great guy who speaks english fairly well. Ask Mat for help on anything, where to stay, where to eat, where to go on boat trips. He's the guy for everything you need on the island for a great experience. He doesn't even charge a penny, and no commission whatsoever! Because he recommends his friends, you get a good rate especially for boat trips. We saved more than 1000 baht, and was given special treatment! We only stayed for 2 nights but we felt like he's been our friend for ages.We love you Mat! Mat's adding a restaurant to his bar soon. He'll serve Thai and Western food. Just drop by, order your drink and settle in for a chat.

Sidewalks all over Thailand: Street food

by globally79

On a budget, you can leave incredibly cheaply eating steet food in Bangkok and all over Thailand. For breakfast you can get skewers of pineapple or watermelon for 20 baht. With street food, you don't need to stop sightseeing to eat, just pick up a little at a time as you go along. You can pick up a few skewers of meat, some rice and a slice of cake and dine back in your hostel for less than two bucks. And I've had tom yum soup at a tin shack in Sukhothai that rivaled anything I've had in a Thai restaurant back home.

Whittard of Chelsea: Bangkok International Airport

by bradbeaman

They state that preparing tea is such a personal thing. Old Mr Whittard used to say that “developing your own ceremony for tea making is essential to gain the most pleasure from that simple cuppa”. Understand what you want from your tea and brew it accordingly, whilst remembering that the all-important rule - the smaller the leaf, the stronger the tea – has yet to be proved wrong. They have over 120 stores across Great Britain, including 19 Whittard Outlets and 2 Whittard t-zone stores in London; Carnaby Street and Covent Garden. The t-zone stores are unique to Whittard, being both an educational and specialist store selling over 100 varieties of tea and a "blend your own" counter. Now if you are stuck in the new Bangkok international airport don't go to Burger King. Sandwich and iced tea

RUEN THEP: Thai food with classical thai dance in Bangkok

by hmoitta

Thai food in a traditional thai house in Silom Trade Center. There are classic thai dances and the food is delicious. I stayed in the Narai Hotel, so I could walk to Silom Village. There are shops and other restaurants in Silom Village too, but the best for me was Ruen Thep. I had the traditional dinner with many thai dishes and a colorful cocktail drink ( Maitai ). The food was delicious ans spicy. I am fond of thai food in general, the only one I've found too hot was the plate with green pepper.

It is normally served with a piece of lime, the juice of which can be added along with the usual Thai condiments. Price: 15 BAHT

Everywhere: Food stalls

by StephanB

We spent three months in Thailand (with our 3 year old) and we ate at food stalls all the time. The food was fantastic, and always a bargain. Sometimes around $1 to have a nice stir fry. We never once got sick. Sure it can happen, but as someone once told me in Thailand, "I would rather see where they cook it, then have them disappear in the back to god knows where to fix my meal." Everything! The banana pancakes maybe were my favorite.

general: If you are a vegetarian...

by bebycik

Since Thailand is 95% Buddhist, I was expecting it to be easy to survive as a vegeratian while over there. Not so. Traditional Thai food contains mostly pork or chicken (with beef being a little less common). Seafood is used too, fresh as well as dried and salted. To eat vegetarian, you will end up with a lot of stir-fried veggies and rice but beware that Thais don't really use salt in their cooking but add fish sauce instead that is very salty and is made with fish. This is such an integral part of Thai cooking that you might just have to make peace with fish sauce while you're over there (and it doesn't really taste like fish anyway.)Interestingly enough, being a vegan is not much harder than vegetarian while traveling in Thailand. Cheese and dairy are not really used in the cooking at all and rice is served instead of bread. Coconut oil is used often instead of butter.

Tuptim Bed and Breakfast: The best breakfast just behind Kao San Road

by Fleaartist

Cabbages & Condoms: Good Foods, Strange Name

by apple-melati

Cabbages & Condoms! hemmm strange name for a restaurant. My friends and I had dinner at this restaurant at the first nihgt we arrived in Bangkok on August 16th. We're surprised to see the condoms decoration all over the place. The menu book cover says: "we guarantee our foods will not cause pregnancy" ,weird and yet it's attractive. They serve mostly Thai foods, good taste and reasonable price too. They have a nice cozy outdoor garden and spacious dining area. Was having a great time there.... Tom Yam Sea Foods
