All of the Markets: BARTER, BARTER, BARTER

by pinkduck

Markets are everywhere in Bangkok and you pay what you are prepared to pay. When you are interested in something and ask the price immediately divide in by half and offer the seller that for it - - if it is too much they will not sell it bu they will ask a little less than the initial price - - then it is up to you - - to either increase your price or leave - - if you leave then they may call you back, if you raise you offer slightly then you can start comparing prices until you have reachd a compromise amount and then you can buy the item.Never feel that you have made a bad bargain - - If you are happy with the price then this is all that matters -- do nto worry about what others have paid (or said that they paid) as long as you have the item at an agreed price. If it is more thatn your spending allowance then do not buy it - -barter but do not feel forced into having it it it is above...

Shopping!: Good place to Shop

by YaaDong

Not in any particular sequence.1. Banglumpu for none brand clothing but they are very decent.2. Pantip plaza for my electronic & software needs. Lately they've been very strict about bootlegged software. I 'd go to the MBK for softwares.3. Central Plaza for brand name clothing. When I say brand names, I'm talking about famous brands in Thailand which could be Asian brands. If you are looking for American brands, it's cheaper in America (if that's where you're from). 4. Chatuchak is open only on weekends. I get my knickknacks here for my apartment in the US. Nice clothes here too. A lot of antiques if you are into that. They are divided by zones. If you are looking for a particular stuff, better ask someone. I collect coins. Coins are at a very specific location. Chatcuchak is so large, this particular part takes up only 2 rows of shops. If you miss it, you miss it. 5. MBK is also a good...

Tom Yum Shrimp Flavor Instant Noodles: Tom Yum Kung!

by YaaDong

A spicy hot & sour noodle soup flavored with a good Tom Yum shrimp paste containing aromatic lemon grass & bergamot mint leaf, and sharp ginger-like galingale. This Tom Yum recipe has a nice spectrum of tastes and aroma. The red chili oil droplets on top of the soup are quite hot.Highly recommend adding shrimps and vegetables to this very bold tasting broth. The most popular and affordable 'Tom Yum Kung' for Thais is 'Mama Tom Yum Kung', an instant noodle. If you need a quick cheap Tom Yum noodle get a pack at any 7 11 store or supermarket. The Jumbo size are the nost filling. Jumbo pack about 10 baht

OTOP "One Tambon One ": Made In Thailand

by YaaDong

One Tambon One Product (OTOP) is a local entrepreneurship stimulus program designed by former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra during the 2001-2006 Thai Rak Thai government. The program aims to support the unique locally made and marketed products of each Thai tambon (subdistrict). Drawing its inspiration from Japan's successful One Village One Product (OVOP) program, Thailand's OTOP program encourages village communities to improve local product quality and marketing, selects one superior product from each tambon to receive formal branding as a "starred OTOP product", and provides a local and international stage for the promotion of these products. OTOP products cover a large array of local products, including handicrafts, cotton and silk garments, pottery, fashion accessories, household items, and foods.

Any outlet: Shopping

All over: 10 Great Things to Buy in Bangkok

by HeatherCarreiro

Bangkok may very well be one the best places to shop in the world. Thais go all out when it comes to shopping malls and markets, and it’s in Thailand that I came to understand that “shopping ‘til you drop” is actually possible. With huge outdoor markets and multi-floor malls, it’s hard to know where to start. Here are some suggestions of great things to buy and where to buy them in Bangkok. 1) Massage Oils Thailand is famous for the Thai massage. There are literally hundreds of scents of massage oils that you can get. Choose your favorite or buy a samples of 5 to 10 different scents. I got 5 small bottles for 100 baht ($2.86) at Chatachuk Weekend Market, and I’m sure you can get them cheaper. Many are attractively packaged and can make a nice gift. Put on a dab of massage oil instead of expensive perfume and you’ll have a long lasting, natural scent the whole day through. 2) Belts...

Manhattan Tailors: Tailors in Thailand - Phuket

by johnque

We have visited Thailand six times in the past 15 years. In 2006 we found a brilliant tailor in Phuket Town - Manhattan Tailors were reasonably priced and made six business suits, shirts and various garments for my wife. Always negotiate on price and select the quality of the fabric before being measured. After the initial fitting allow a few days to ensure quality to finish. In December 2008 we returned with our two adult children and each had suits and business wear made. The standard of fit and the quality are really good and we have been entirely satified that they meet all their commitments. Tailor made suits and business dress £140 for a high quality cashmere suit made to measure and expertly finished.

Suan Lum Night Bazaar

by Maggah

Just for info (as I was trying to find out myself before my trip!) the night market was open as usual mid-August 2008. There's a vast choice of things to buy - similar to what you'd find at Jatujak weekend market but not quiet that extensive! When you leave the market don't take a taxi or tuktuk inside the market limits - they won't use their meter and charge ridiculous fixed rates. Go outside and there are plenty of taxis.
