Khlong Boats: Damnoensaduak Floating Market

by AlbuqRay

The Damnoensaduak floating market is still pretty authentic, even though many tour buses stop there. Our friends made us get up early (5 AM) in order to arrive before the tour buses. It was about an hour and a half trip. Not many shoppers were there at that time and it was quite enjoyable. The prices were reasonable also. Food and local crafts.

Sea Gypsy Vendors: Phuket Pearls

by AlbuqRay

Sea gypsies are the indigenous people of Phuket. Try shopping in the village of Ko Sirey. They have open air shops right on the beach. I got some bargins on pearls and seashell necklaces. They were not the uniform-sized pearls I see back home. There were nice colors from which to select. Hey, you can also buy fresh fish and shellfish to cook when you get home (if you live on Phuket). Be prepared to bargin, or better yet, let your Phuket friends bargin. I was buying gifts to take home and also got discounts for buying many things. The pearl necklaces were 375 baht each, i.e., less than $10. The shell necklaces and bracelets were 30-75 baht.

The Weekend Market in Bangkok: Handicrafts & Thai art

by BorderHopper

The weekend market is made up of individually owned shops spread out over acres of land. There are many types of items and goods a shopper can buy here. What interests me the most are the Thai goods. There are so many beautiful handicrfts available here you'd be crazy to buy your souvenier in a hotel gift shop. The prices here are very reasonable and bargaining will assure you get a lower price.

Chatuchak Weekend Market: What a Market!

by squidchip

35 acres of outdoor flea market with a lot of new items. Almost anything you could want is here including lunch. Everything under the sun can be had here on 35 acres. Food, clothing, shoes, bags, pets, antiques, handicrafts, art, books, household accessories and so much more. Even tatoos. Takes a while to see everything and some areas can get quite congested. Bargaining is expected!!!!!!
