Khao Sok National Park is 73km away. It is possible to book organised tours from Khaolak or you can take a local bus and take your own tour. I did the latter.
When I arrived I employed a guide for 500 baht but this proved to be a waste of money. I had envisaged that a guide would be essential. However, there are not many paths through the park and they are all signposted. All my guide did was drink my water and tell me about his many conquests with farang girls!
The best views were from before the park entrance where towering limestone rock formations can be seen jutting out of the ground.
The park was a bit of a disappointment. There are apparently many forms of wildlife there but in the daytime, especially near the walking paths, they stay away. All I saw were some spiders and a lizard. Apart from that a lot of trees.
I tried to save some money but it might be advisable to take an organised tour where you will be taken to see some more interesting things.
If you travel independently be aware that there is a 200 baht entrance fee to the park which presumably is included in an organised tour.

The bungalows of the resort can be hard to find in the jungle. On the photo there are two of them. Can you see them?
