Muan Lai restaurant offers menu of local Issan food or local thai food from Northeastern Region. The restaurant is very popular for Thai visitors. It's also the best place for a cold drink during the day and watching the seaview of the whole area of Kha Lak from the hill.

Favorite Dish: Papaya Salad, fried chicken, grilled chicken sticky rice,..etc

Its a very nice place for a quick meal during the day, good food, huge menu of Thai food and international food, relaxing atmosphere. If you happen to stay in Nang Thong area, shouldn't miss. The restaurant open early from 7 AM till late at night.

It's a good place to watch sunset by beach. The food was excellent and reasonable price. The restaurant is located at front beach in the area of Nang Thong Bay Resort where you can walk to the restaurant from back road behide resort or walk into the restaurant from beach. The staffs there were very nice and friendly, great service!

Yeah there is not a lot happening in Khao Lak. But that is one of the reasons that we like it, we were looking for a place away from the tourist areas like Phuket.
What we like to do is get on a bike and hit the road, sometimes for a couple days at a time and just see where the road takes us. We have found some really pristine deserted beaches, small towns that tourists avoid but have some great crafts and food as well as some really neat refreshing waterfalls well off the beaten path.

Best palce to eat in Khao Lak is PhuKhaoLak resort. It is located at the bottom of the hill as you enter Khao Lak just on the right side of the road. This is also a great place to stay.
Chim and her family run this place. Mom and one of the other daughters are the cooks and they are good. They have an updated menu with a very big selection of meal. It is not french based but good none the less. People from other resorts come here to eat nightly. Their seafood plates are very good. We ususally stay here when in Khao lak and we have tried other palces and it just is not as good.

We had great Thai food here, and it is pretty cheap (very cheap by western standards). The restaurant is essentially a deck extending out from the steep slope leading down to the ocean. The photo shows a view from the deck. Very nice! You also do not need to worry about tsunamis here since the restaurant is at least 30 meters above sea level.

I can only imagine being here when the waves hit and then maybe not realizing the extent of the damage until driving back down the hill and seeing the chaos there.

Maybe I should not mention such tragedy in a tip, so anyway, the restaurant should still be there, though I don't know if it is open. It is a quaint little place, but highly recommended.

Afterwards, you can burn off calories by hiking down to the beach to the south or along the trail going north.

Favorite Dish: Everything we had was great.

If you are really hungry e.g. after diving, give Ramon's and Pron's Italian restaurant a chance -

Ramon was so nice to us, feeding us not only with food but also with a lot of useful and interesting information ...

It used to be that as you walked along this road towards the beach, the restaurant was the first building you would come to. That has all changed now. As I write, the area looks like a building site but soon this large, ugly building will be full of shops and businesses.
