This is the worst attempt for Mexican food in SE Asia. I spent 3 days sick after eating here and then confronted the manager. She said "Oh, I'm sorry. I tell the staff to refrigerate the leftovers but they don't always listen to me". Seriously?! You microwaved leftover food that had been sitting out for 24 hours and fed it to me? No wonder I was so sick. Eating here will only ruin your trip to Khao Lak. You want Mexican? Go to Sunrise Tacos in Bangkok.
Lovely food, a very welcoming restaurant. The staffs were so friendly. This is one small restaurant among tons of restaurants in the area of Nang Thong, Khao Lak. In the evening you will see people walk around to find their dinning place. We found this place, quite relaxing, there are 2 table front of the restaurant that you can sit and watch people and enjoy the night atmosphere, inside decore with some nice painting. Thai dished we had always so delicious. Good value for money.
Muan Lai restaurant offers menu of local Issan food or local thai food from Northeastern Region. The restaurant is very popular for Thai visitors. It's also the best place for a cold drink during the day and watching the seaview of the whole area of Kha Lak from the hill.
Favorite Dish: Papaya Salad, fried chicken, grilled chicken sticky rice,..etc
Its a very nice place for a quick meal during the day, good food, huge menu of Thai food and international food, relaxing atmosphere. If you happen to stay in Nang Thong area, shouldn't miss. The restaurant open early from 7 AM till late at night.
It's a good place to watch sunset by beach. The food was excellent and reasonable price. The restaurant is located at front beach in the area of Nang Thong Bay Resort where you can walk to the restaurant from back road behide resort or walk into the restaurant from beach. The staffs there were very nice and friendly, great service!
Yeah there is not a lot happening in Khao Lak. But that is one of the reasons that we like it, we were looking for a place away from the tourist areas like Phuket.
What we like to do is get on a bike and hit the road, sometimes for a couple days at a time and just see where the road takes us. We have found some really pristine deserted beaches, small towns that tourists avoid but have some great crafts and food as well as some really neat refreshing waterfalls well off the beaten path.
would like to hear how you liked or disliked the restuarant at Phukhaolak?
Best palce to eat in Khao Lak is PhuKhaoLak resort. It is located at the bottom of the hill as you enter Khao Lak just on the right side of the road. This is also a great place to stay.
Chim and her family run this place. Mom and one of the other daughters are the cooks and they are good. They have an updated menu with a very big selection of meal. It is not french based but good none the less. People from other resorts come here to eat nightly. Their seafood plates are very good. We ususally stay here when in Khao lak and we have tried other palces and it just is not as good.
Say hi to Chim for us!
We had great Thai food here, and it is pretty cheap (very cheap by western standards). The restaurant is essentially a deck extending out from the steep slope leading down to the ocean. The photo shows a view from the deck. Very nice! You also do not need to worry about tsunamis here since the restaurant is at least 30 meters above sea level.
I can only imagine being here when the waves hit and then maybe not realizing the extent of the damage until driving back down the hill and seeing the chaos there.
Maybe I should not mention such tragedy in a tip, so anyway, the restaurant should still be there, though I don't know if it is open. It is a quaint little place, but highly recommended.
Afterwards, you can burn off calories by hiking down to the beach to the south or along the trail going north.
Favorite Dish: Everything we had was great.
If you are really hungry e.g. after diving, give Ramon's and Pron's Italian restaurant a chance -
Ramon was so nice to us, feeding us not only with food but also with a lot of useful and interesting information ...
Favorite Dish: Their house made Buffalo Mozzarella...
It used to be that as you walked along this road towards the beach, the restaurant was the first building you would come to. That has all changed now. As I write, the area looks like a building site but soon this large, ugly building will be full of shops and businesses.
A very authentic Thai restaurant built from local materials with hardly a piece of concrete in sight. There is a verandah area that overlooks a pond at the back.
My friend, Bo, cooks great food!
Very, very sad update (February 2003). Next to this lovely restaurant is now a massive construction site where bulldozers have started to fill in the pond. The waterlilies have died, as no doubt have the fish, and consequently the wading birds no longer visit.
How anyone could destroy such a beautiful environment is beyond me. Although I don't shed any tears on the outside this kind of thing makes me cry inside.
November 2003. Not only has the surrounding environment been destroyed but this lovely building was pulled down a short time ago and replaced with a concrete one. All of the information in this tip is not out of date but I'll leave it here as an illustration of what is happening in Thailand.
Favorite Dish: Most things. The fish is always excellent and sold at giveaway prices.
I'm afraid that the information in the above tip is now completely out of date. The restaurant has been pulled down and replaced with a concrete monstrosity. There are bungalows behind and a huge building on one side. It used to be that a nice, cooling breeze came through the restaurant but now there is no air flow and it feels hot and stuffy. See my 'Destruction' travelogue for more details.
The owners are really nice people and always remember me but what has gone on appalls me.
The food at Andaman & Similan restaurants are great. You will love it! You can also watch the sun go down while you're eating.
Favorite Dish: The restaurants serve thai cuisine, italian cuisine and international cuisine, and of course freshest seafood.
Very good local food and friendly staff.
Favorite Dish: The Pad Thai is very good. Also good is the Laap Gai (Chicken) and Lapp Muu (Pork).
This is a north-eastern Thai salad dish but be warned, it can be extremely spicy.
The meat is chopped up fine and mixed with onions, garlic and chili. Because of the way the dish is prepared there is no escaping the chili, that is, you can't pick them out and leave them on the side of your plate.
I made a lethal mistake when asked if I wanted it spicy. Sometimes spicy dishes are toned down for farangs to the extent that they become bland. To avoid this I answered yes, meaning I just wanted it the normal way that a Thai would have it. My answer was misinterpreted that I wanted it very spicy. The result was a dish so spicy that it made me go light-headed and I couldn't eat more than a few mouthfuls. I suffered all of the next day too starting at 4am in the morning!
Every beachfront resort has their own restaurant/bar setup on the beach. You can walk along the beach, and choose whatever restaurant you want.
Ate at quite a few, and the food was always good.
