the boat. perfect for 15 people

Poseidon bungalows/Similantour arranges live-aboards purely for snorkellers. For three days and two nights you will live aboard a boat which will take you to- and around the Similan islands. This is one of the ten best dive- and snorkel spots in the world. You don't have to be a scuba diver to see great things. We saw reef sharks, triggerfish, sea turtles, barracudas, beautiful corals and lots and lots of different fish. The food on the boat was really great and we had an unforgettable experience.

Chong Fah Falls

Chong Fah Falls lie about 5 kms north of Khaolak along the main coast highway from Phuket up to Takua Pa.

Easily accessed by rental jeep or motorcycle.

The water is very cool, a great place to go for a swim on a hot day.

Rent scooters/motorbikes and explore!

We found the most beautiful beach I've ever seen, and we had it to ourselves.

Heading away to the north of central Khao Lak. Just drive along the roads parallel to the beach, and explore the dirt tracks heading down.

I'm second from the right at the back

Just 4 and a half hours away from Khao Lak lie the beautiful Similan Islands where the world underwater is even more beautiful than that above.
Go to one of the many dive operators in town (such as Sea Dragon) and book yourself on a liveaboard trip for a few days.

Lampi Waterfall

Lampi Waterfall is about 30 Kms drive from Khao Lak on the main Highway no.4. Its quite a lovely green area and you will be see more local than foreign tourist here. There's a nice walking trail down the stream to the waterfall. The waterfall is overall 40m height. It's quite refreshing atmosphere, take a break from a warm sea breeze. Everyone needs to pay the entrance fee.

The tsunami Police Boat 813 memorial

We rent a car and made a day trip to many places. We also visited The tsunami Police Boat 813 memorial, located very close to main street in the area of Bang Niang, central of Khao Lak. It became one of attractions in Khao lak after Tsunami hit Khao lak very hard in December 2004. This boat was sitting in the harbor when the wave came and was thrust 2 kilometers inland and has been left exactly where the tsunami deposited it as a memorial and historical landmark. No admission fee.

Khaolak

I love the long walk on beach, include watching the sunset. Khao Lak has many beaches where they are connected with each other, good opportunity to make a long walk in the morning or late afternoon, scenic view all around while walking, mountain view and seaview.

Diving at Similan Island

I joined a day trip to Similan Island diving. There are many diving operators at Khao Lak. I booked the Similan Scuba Adventures through the hotel. Honestly, I thought if you can go to the town centre to shop around, you would probably get a better deal. But the Similan Scuba Adventures is OK. It seems that the entire Khao Lak area is fun by German speaking Europeans. But English is OK too. Our dive instructor is a Mexican. He is very detailed and attentive. Nice guy and a good dive instructor. I dived at the Deep Six and East of Eden. I didn't go very deep (12m only) but there's already a lot to see: angelfish, parrotfish, scorpionfish, frogfish...
It took about 1.5 hr drive by speedboat to get to the Similan island from Khao Lak. So, better get a seasickness pill as the sea can be very chubby.

The Khao Lak beach

The long empty clean sand beaches are just lovely and a few miles long. Just walk a few hundred meters away and you're alone.

An elephant show her strenght

A ride thru jungle was an interesting but I must say not very pleasant. These elephants didn't need any beating or those metal hooks to obey. Only voice commands were enough.
