  • Diving at Similan Island

I joined a day trip to Similan Island diving. There are many diving operators at Khao Lak. I booked the Similan Scuba Adventures through the hotel. Honestly, I thought if you can go to the town centre to shop around, you would probably get a better deal. But the Similan Scuba Adventures is OK. It seems that the entire Khao Lak area is fun by German...

Ban Khao Lak Warnings and Dangers

  • Pedestrians watch out!

As can be seen in the picture, there is no real pavement (sidewalk in Americanese) for pedestrians. The piece of road outside the white line is where most people walk but it is also used by motorbikes in both directions. During the daytime vehicles overtake other vehicles at great speed. In the evening the authorities lay out traffic cones in the...

  • similandiver's Profile Photo

by similandiver Written Jun 22, 2010

The tailors are very aggressive and rude. The quality is quite poor as well, the just take them to sweat shops and have them made there.

Monty the Tailor is not only polite, but his quality is very good.

  • Thai Boxing

There is a Thai boxing stadium in Khaolak. It is nothing compared to the big stadia in Bangkok but it is one up from the bouts you might see in the bar areas of Patong.Fights are usually on a Saturday night and throughout the day of a fight you will see and hear speaker vans going up and down the main road advertising it.

Being so close, you cannot visit Khao Lak and not take a trip to the Similans!I have covered this elsewhere on my page.I recommend Sea Dragon for their professional attitude, friendliness and competitive rates. Of course you can take your own equipment but I prefer the convenience of renting. Sea Dragon's rental equipment is very good.

  • The Proliferation of Dive Shops

Because of Khaolak's proximity to the Similan Islands, one of the world's best diving locations, it is not surprising that more and more dive shops are springing up.
