    Pedestrians watch out!

    Khaolak Main Road

As can be seen in the picture, there is no real pavement (sidewalk in Americanese) for pedestrians. The piece of road outside the white line is where most people walk but it is also used by motorbikes in both directions. During the daytime vehicles overtake other vehicles at great speed. In the evening the authorities lay out traffic cones in the middle of the road to prevent overtaking and to slow down traffic. Be careful.

When staying at Similana Resort don't forget that this place is located really close/ in the jungle, and that the animals living there also are close to you. So be prepared to meat frogs, lizards etc. =)

    Weather

The high season in Khaolak is short - just 4 months - from December to March although good weather can occur outside of these months.
I have only been in the high season but am told that in the low season there is much rain and strong winds from the south-west monsoon.

    Construction is taking place everywhere

    Construction site

Khao Lak is being developed at a ridiculous rate. Now that a good part of Phuket has been ruined people have started coming north. The price of land in Khao Lak has gone up enormously in the past few years and construction is taking place everywhere.
What was a quiet, idyllic place a year or 2 ago will soon be wrecked. Such is life.

    Rocks on the beach

Be careful when walking on the rocks next to the beach at high rising tide as they will become really slippery!

    Khao Lak beach

The sun is very hot here, so don't forget to use alot of sun protection. You could also search some nice shadows really close to the beach during the warmest time of the day.
