After far too many minibus journeys that take far longer than they should. We decided to go to the bus station in Phuket and book it ourselves.
We tried to find out the information first, but everyone assumes that we are going from Bangkok. Not Phuket.
Any way we booked the bus at the bus station. Paid 390B each from Phuket town to Chumphon. It was a very comfortable bus. Water was provided, but still bring your own. The journey took 8 1/2 hours. We were told 6 1/2. The air con kept stopping. But it was more comfortable than a minibus, it was cheaper and we were dropped off in Chumphon centre.
Make sure that you book it at the bus station, not with the travel agents that you see as you reach the bus station.
Getting around chumphon to other places is very easy and cheap. There are motocyle taxis which u can rent in the city . There's also mini trucks coverted to bus and the blue taxis. U can also rent a motorbike for 200thb/day or Jeep at 1000THB/day.
For long distance travel to other cities like Bangkok, Hua Hin and Surathani, there are regular buses daily.
There are also 4 train stations serving Chumphon province, one at Chumphon itsellf, Lang Suan, Lamee and Sawi.
