Apparantly Hat Yai is one of the main centre for Bullfighting in Thailand.

Many local people seem to have no problem with a variety of 'sports' that enable humans to use dumb defenceless animals for the questionable pleasure of being able to lay a bet or two. If you read on you will see it is very different to the 'sterotype' we have in our minds gained from any exposure to Spanish Bullfighting.

For once I'll take the moral high ground and refuse to give any more information about where it happens as a form of protest. It is however as well to be informed about the background, and one has to realise that for many (however much we don't like it) it is part of the local culture and tradition. Then again we used to burn witches and keep people in salvery.

Bullfighting is one of the local sports popular among both Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims in the South, along with cock-fighting and Siamese fighting fish.
Two bulls are matched in the ring. Betting by the audience makes the fight even more exciting for them. The fighting pair use their horns, hurling themselves together until one makes a false step.
