North end of Klong Dao Beach next to Lanta Sand Resort & Spa. The Funky Fish has an exceptional chef from Indonesia that cooks Indian food better than most Indians. Solid Thai and original fusion dishes as well but it won't break the bank. Red curry is fantastic = chicken/beef/duck/seafood. Tikka Masala is best I have tasted in Thailand and comes with rice or naan bread. Pizzas are super thin crust cooked in a real pizza oven. The fish dishes are specialties and supposedly the best on the island according to the German owner who stays onsite in high season. Kitchen is kept tidy and everything is done fresh upon ordering. Lots of tables and chairs on varying levels with nice lights so it's easy to find on the beach at night. Beers are about 70 baht for small Tigers, Singhas, a little more for Heineken a little less for Chang. Service is attentive and background music is always chilled. 10-night Lanta stay October 2010, we ate here every other night. Owner says it's packed in season and they go through 200 cases of beers every night.
Favorite Dish: Favorites are Tikka Masssala, Red Curry and an awesome grilled shrimp appetizer served on skewers. The menu pictures accurately represent what you will get. Next door they also own Funky Fish Massage. "Li" just started Oct 2010 for the high season. Ask for her and you won't be disappointed. She studied in Bangkok and has worked in the business for years. She has a gift for massage and will treat you right. Very different than the "beach ladies" who sell massages but are not qualified. I did a 90 minute massage every day with her before heading out for the evening.

This a french bakery and cafe with excellent breads and expresso's. We found ourselves here everyday. The staff were still be trained when we were there, so be patient.
Favorite Dish: We were recommended banana and blackcurrant shake. It was excellent. The bread is fresh everyday.

Address: Phrae Ae village,
We were staying here anyway and heard that the food was worth trying.
Maybe it was because the kitchen had only just opened for the season or they were in a hurry as it was the bar's opening night, but
The Massaman curry didn't taste of much and the potatoes were barely cooked. Massaman is a Muslim curry which is very popular in Southern Thailand. The Chilli con Carne was barely warm with out any heat to the flavour. After I was served it I was asked if I wanted rice.
Maybe things will improve here. Maybe it was a bad night.
Favorite Dish: The rice was hot.

This is a small friendly place that has a mix of local and German food. We opted to have Thai food and I am so glad that we did.
The food is brilliant and very cheap. We paid 70B for Masaman chicken with rice. The rice came in the shape of a teddy bear, something that you don't see often. Cheap beer too. We paid 30B for a small Chang.
Favorite Dish: Masaman curry. I have been trying this in various places throughout Thailand. It is a Southern Thailand-Muslim dish. As you would expect it is better in the south.

After we had our first sip of expresso, we were in coffee heaven. This has to be one of the best expresso's that we had in Thailand. Add to this fresh bread, baguettes etc. Perfect.
Very friendly and attentive service.
Favorite Dish: Salami and Cheese Baguette. Try the pineapple lassi as well.

I don't know why I haven't added this spot to my tips before as I have eaten here many times and love the food. Bob and his staff get the BBQ going around 12:00PM or so and keep cooking until late in the evening. He was very busy this time around and it was a good thing that he added a new section for people to sit. The restaurant is rustic and very laid back and his cook is very good.
During the day Bob is buzzing around his bar getting ready for the afternoon/evening rush, but at night he usually has time to kick back and have a drink with his customers. We have became pretty good friends over the last few years, and I hope that things continue to go well for him in the future.
Favorite Dish: The dish that I like the best and had alsmost every day, was the BBQ half chicken with rice. The chicken is cooked just right and the sauce that is served with it is excellent.
The price for this dish is around 100BHT or so and well worth it, I get hungry just thinking about it.
