Gong Grit Bar & Restaurant: Don't miss Their Delicious Food and Cocktails!

by Sunchild Written Feb 24, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are many restaurants on Klong Dao Beach and quite a few which seem to be really good. But this restaurant was by far our favourite one!

Gong, his wife and sister render the best and friendliest service you can think of and make you feel like being at home! Their drinks (beer and - most important - cocktails) are great. The food is absolutely delicious - everything - their curries, seafood, fish or steak dishes make you go there over and over again - mmmmmmh - and everything is served freshly cooked and at a very good value!

Sitting in front of the restaurant on one of the chairs right on the beach, with a cocktail or any other drink in our hand and watching the sunset, was definitely always one of our highlights of the day! They serve peanuts with a drink, too!

Absolutely cozy atmosphere (especially at sunsets or at night) and super service!

Favorite Dish: Any of the dishes we ordered were really good - freshly cooked and really tasty!

Favorite Dish: The local food here is very similar to Malaysian but with heavy usage of Fish sauce. Fish sauce used here is alike Soy sauce over in Malaysia. It may sound a little gross (I know .. Fish sauce .. umm...errr...) but its actually VERY DELICIOUS !

I was wandering about Saladan and was getting hungry. At the same time, I was looking for a 2nd hand bookshop find some books. After deciding on Gabriel Garcia Marquez, I saw that there was a restaurant inside the bookshop, which overlooks the pier.

It was a very quaint shop and I had a great exeprience having a wonderful delicious lunch. My lunch here was 125 Bhat.

Local cordiments to heighten your eating pleasure

by jenniferchin Written Jan 4, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

4 accompaniments to your local meals to enhance your eating sensations :-)

Starting from top, moving in clockwise direction :

    1) Dried chillie flakes ~ be careful, it can be really spicy !
    2) Fresh birds eye chillies in fish sauce ~ be EXTRA careful, fresh cut chilles are extremely spicy (only for the crazy !)
    3) Sugar ~ to cut down the spiceness, I think.
    4) Fresh green chillies in sweeten vinegar ~ this is not too spicy. Its my favourite !!

    Street vendor: Local snacks

by jenniferchin Written Jan 4, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite Dish: This is just like the Roti Canai we have here in Malaysia, with a twist, that is.

    - The man first spreads out the kneaded dough on a flat pan to cook it.
    - He then adds in a mixture of Raw egg and Mashed fresh banana onto the now-being-formed pancake.
    - He then folds the pancake so that the mixture will cook inside and will not spill out.
    - After making sure that the pancake is well-cooked, he flips it out and outs in on a paper plate.
    - He cuts it up, adds sinful condensed milk AND sprinkles sugar on it.
    - Then you eat it :-)

    - Warning : Its very very very sweet.

Same Same But Different: auhtentic Thai curries & Seafood

by francischris Updated Feb 8, 2006

Right on the beach.Tastefully decorated with Thai wood decor.
You can eat literally barefooted burying yr feet in the fine sand.

Favorite Dish: King mackrel,Barracuda,Snappers grilled or fried are simply fresh and delicious.,Crispy prawn crackers to go with cold beer,,Beef curry is spicy and and tender.Chicken in green curry is fragrant,Pad thai(fried flat noodles) with generous helpings of fresh prawns.
I also tried the raw prawns thai style. This is not to my taste as each prawn is accompanied by a piece of bitter gourd( bitter n yuks!!!) ,accompaning sauce is too salty. The prawns are big and fresh though..so much better with japanese wasabi. So next time bring a tube of wasabi!

Lanta Beer House and Restaurant: Rice in the shape of a Teddy Bear

by traceyspacey Written Oct 11, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a small friendly place that has a mix of local and German food. We opted to have Thai food and I am so glad that we did.

The food is brilliant and very cheap. We paid 70B for Masaman chicken with rice. The rice came in the shape of a teddy bear, something that you don't see often. Cheap beer too. We paid 30B for a small Chang.

Favorite Dish: Masaman curry. I have been trying this in various places throughout Thailand. It is a Southern Thailand-Muslim dish. As you would expect it is better in the south.

The Sanctuary: Not the best meal that we have ever had

by traceyspacey Written Oct 16, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We were staying here anyway and heard that the food was worth trying.

Maybe it was because the kitchen had only just opened for the season or they were in a hurry as it was the bar's opening night, but

The Massaman curry didn't taste of much and the potatoes were barely cooked. Massaman is a Muslim curry which is very popular in Southern Thailand. The Chilli con Carne was barely warm with out any heat to the flavour. After I was served it I was asked if I wanted rice.

Maybe things will improve here. Maybe it was a bad night.

Favorite Dish: The rice was hot.

BOBS BAR AND BBQ: GREAT FOOD, MANY LAUGHS!

    by mamasan69 Written May 10, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I don't know why I haven't added this spot to my tips before as I have eaten here many times and love the food. Bob and his staff get the BBQ going around 12:00PM or so and keep cooking until late in the evening. He was very busy this time around and it was a good thing that he added a new section for people to sit. The restaurant is rustic and very laid back and his cook is very good.
During the day Bob is buzzing around his bar getting ready for the afternoon/evening rush, but at night he usually has time to kick back and have a drink with his customers. We have became pretty good friends over the last few years, and I hope that things continue to go well for him in the future.

Favorite Dish: The dish that I like the best and had alsmost every day, was the BBQ half chicken with rice. The chicken is cooked just right and the sauce that is served with it is excellent.
The price for this dish is around 100BHT or so and well worth it, I get hungry just thinking about it.

Rak Talay Beach restaurant at Pimalai resort: Fantastic Seafood in a beautiful setting

by Nemoa Written Feb 5, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is one of the restaurants at the PImalai resort in Ko Lanta.
Please, even if your budget is not strong enough to stay at the Pimalai, make an effort and drag yourself to the restaurant or this Cafe, which is more like a beach restaurant.

You can choose your own seafood raw from a selection and they cook it for you, so it is super fresh.
The setting is incomparable really, you can have your candlelit dinner with the sound of the waves as background and I can assure it is something very special.

Fairly more expensive than your average thai but worth every penny.

Favorite Dish: Grilled tiger prawns with chili sauce.

    So fresh...

LANTA SUNNY HOUSE RESTAURANT?: GREAT FOOD, DRINK, OR MOVIE

    by mamasan69 Updated May 16, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The food here was very good and there was quite the variety. The portions were good and they were definitely filling enough to kill any hunger pains.
The restaurant is small with only three or four tables, but comfortable and there is a TV, so you can watch movies while you eat or drink.
The staff are very friendly, it is a nice peaceful place to have a meal and maybe a "little" drinking fun.

Favorite Dish: All of the meals I had here were great, but I guess the fried noodles and beef stand out the most . The price is good (85bht) and you get a huge meal to eat. Many of the meals are priced around 85-120bht and are all worth it.........I better stop before I start drooling.
